Innarestin. I’m not generally a Bat guy, but I enjoyed much of Gotham and adored Pennyworth, so I might give this a shot (though not on HBO Max).

When Gotham was originally announced, this is what I imagined it being. I was quite disappointed when they then decided to go down the prequel line instead.

Rather, it's an untitled series, but it's being described as similar to the GCPD-centered Gotham Central comic.

It sounds like it might be the kind of show I hoped Gotham would be originally.

Really not interested in it. I'm a fan of Batman, the city he lives in less so. I'm more curious about a Ben Affleck Batman series.

I'm really looking forward to The Batman, so I'm definitely curious about the GCPD series.

Have you looked at TV listings? Crime dramas have been a staple for 50 years..........although having it set in Gotham really makes it more of a comic show as opposed to CopRock.

Yeah, but the attitudes towards cops has changed a lot in the last few months.
I am very curious to see what shows like The Rookie are going to be like when they come back.

Why? There's tons of stories to tell

-The dad that believes in Batman and thinks he's out to do good while living in crummy condition with his family.

-A young lady who just moved to Gotham has witnessed a crime

-A boy on the wrong side of the tracks who Gordon is watching out for

The announcement did say this show would be about police corruption. Ever since Batman: Year One, the story of Jim Gordon has been the story of the one honest cop taking on a systemically corrupt and brutal police force and turning it back to the side of the angels, or at least relying on Batman as an alternative when he couldn't trust his own department. So it's a story that could work in the light of recent revelations, since it wouldn't be glorifying the police or ignoring systemic abuses. With Jeffrey Wright playing Gordon, you could certainly have him tackling systemic racism in the police, as we saw with Inspector Henderson on Black Lightning in its first season or two.

Such a show would require a bigger Batman presence than they'd probably commit to. They'll want to use Batman's villains, but then viewers would constantly be asking "Where's Batman?". Without Batman's villains, then it's just another cop show. I'd be down for this if it were "Gordon and Batman" where Batman is a regular character, but the POV follows Gordon and allows for an exploration of his partnership with Batman and why he engage in such a thing i.e. police corruption.

I doubt we're going to see Batman more than once or twice, if at all. It probably comes down to if Robert Pattinson is willing to do a streaming series, or how much money he's asking. I also can't see them using him on the series to much while they're still doing movies, they're probably going to want to save the majority of his appearances for them.

It's not supposed to be a Batman show, it's supposed to be a GCPD show. Put Batman in it and he'll just overshadow that. Just look what happened with Gotham, and Batman wasn't even really in that. So the less we see of Batman, the better. Let him be a mysterious figure, an urban legend, something most of the cops only contend with from a distance. It might be more interesting that way. Have Commissioner Gordon go up to the roof and have the detectives watch him go and then start griping about him not having enough faith in good old police work, or something.

Gotham is a big city. Not every crime is going attract the attention of Batman or even Gordon.

Oddly, that's why Batman Forever stands out to me. Commissioner Gordon is about to just give up on the whole day when Batman finally shows up. When, you know, you have a police force.

Maybe it's a look at the day-to-day life of police commissioner, done realistically. Thrill as Gordon goes from meeting to meeting and tackles paperwork. Plus, dealing with the fallout and aftermath of Batman's battles with supervillains and protecting the citizens of Gotham. Since it's all set in the daytime hours anyway, there's no need to have Batman, but maybe Robert Pattinson might make a cameo or two as Bruce Wayne.

    Gordon- We're on strike?

Montoya- No. The printer is out of toner

    *Gordon lights a cigarette*

    Gordon- Dammit............
