They really should have let T'Pol keep the long hair.

I've been revisiting some of the weaker episodes of Enterprise.

Unexpected - I appreciate the effort to make the aliens more alien. I also liked the makeup effects. But, while I think the cast did a good job with the comedy bits, the basic plot is just not good.

Silent Enemy - The A plot is a good idea. The B plot is one of the worst in Trek history. Not even Reed's parents give a shit about his favorite food, so why the hell should we? I wish the A plot had been integrated into Shuttlepod One or something.

Fortunate Son - Not terrible, but I think it would have been more effective with the older captain of the Fortunate as the antagonist. I would also have liked to have seen more of the Boomer's culture.

Marauders - one of the first signs that the writers have run out of ideas. Nothing but a tired Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven rehash.

Dawn - It's Enemy Mine/Hell in the Pacific/The Enemy. I did like the alien makeup.

Vanishing Point - It's The Next Phase but without an ending. Perfectly watchable, but not much more. I wish Hoshi had gotten some stronger scripts. The actress is quite good, and I find the character interesting.

The Breach - Inevitable ending of the A plot. Some nice acting by John Billingsly though. The B plot had some nice comedic moments.

The Seventh - There's some potential here, but it never quite comes together. There are too many unanswered questions at the end. Why did the 19 turn? Why did T'Pol kill #6? Why doesn't #7 act like a Vulcan at all? We could use some more details about T'Pol's mindwipe too. Not boring at least.

The Communicator - They should have retired the naive bumbler version of Archer midway through season 1. Here he once again makes a bad situation even worse.

    Cogenitor - Absolute crap.

    - Ah, I rather liked the Silent Enemy B-plot. I thought it was nice to see some day-to-day life aboard ship, and it was a good way of showing the bond that's growing between the crew.
I like Vanishing Point for the same reason - no great game-changing story, just a look at one of the things that makes Hoshi tick. (Like you, I find Hoshi interesting and wish she'd been used more) :)

Anyway, the last episodes I watched were: ENT: "Affliction" and "Divergence".

Hmm...the Silent Enemy B plot might have been interesting as part of Singularity. Hoshi as Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction in a psychotic quest to find the favorite food of a totally oblivious Reed.

This morning I watched: TOS: "And The Children Shall Lead"

It would probably have worked better as a semi-sequel to Charlie X and Day of the Dove. Play up the Village of the Damned horror angle but mix in the "creature who feeds on negative emotions" bit. You can reason with Kang, but can you reason with kindergartners?

ENT: "Bound" - :ack: An absolute travesty! Not even the Trip/T'Pol scene (including the kiss!) could save it.
I did quite like the music the Orion "slave girls" danced to at the beginning, though...

Haberkorn remains my favorite Spock actor besides Nimoy.

It really is a shame... this is the best A plot and the worst B plot in season one. I used to think the A plot ruled the day, but now I think the B plot ruins it, it is truly HEINOUS. That's all these jackass writers had for their female character (and I assume their female co-workers)... organizing office birthdays for the men.

    DS9: The Nagus.

Nog really did have the best arc of any character on the show, maybe even the best arc of any Trek character. His friendship with Jake is so good.

    TOS: Whom Gods Destroy

I don't like the "We're here to deliver magical anti-crazy pills" set-up, and there are some other nitpicks like the costuming and makeup, but it's a fairly entertaining hour.

Dream casting for LORD Garth? Vincent Price. He was doing tv work by then and he would have owned that role.

    ENT: Carpenter Street

Not a great episode, but, imo, Archer and T'Pol make one of the best character tandems in Trek. The actors just have great chemistry. It's fun to watch how easily they slide into "90s cop show" mode.

TNG “Parallels”. Next to “The Pegasus” and “All Good Things” a clear high point for s7. I wish the show had done more high-concept sci-fi like this and less navel-gazing soapy stuff. It’s a blast.

It does come across as a bit simplistic, even for Star Trek.

Who Mourns for Morn? (DS9). Talk about a time waster!

Yep. I think that the ending would have been more poignant if Garth was just having a temporary moment of lucidity instead of being cured.

    I watched ENT: Harbinger

The A plot was decent but would have worked just fine as a 12 minute B plot in a better episode. The B plot was the mortifying climax of the embarrassing 'Vulcan neuropressure" storyline, and the C plot was two dudes trying to fight their way out of the closet or something.

First time watching "Balance of Terror". Sarek went a bit nuts. Loved it.
