Yes it is. Though I like to feel that some thought is put into the creative process about how these things actually work. Now, the show being a comedy gives it some leeway, but it is also supposed to be part of the larger universe.

And most of us don't need an "I think" in front to know when somebody's stating their opinion.

Who knows, maybe the impractical design is intended to be source of comedy? We could have characters complaining in the show about it. Maybe they were inspired by the Oberth on that front.

On the Oberth front, I always thought that secondary hull was just full of sensors and wasn’t accessed by the crew, it was something that got swapped in and out at starbases for specific missions.

I'm sure there was. So far it feels like it fits in the larger universe..

Are jokes about how Starfleet designers are so inept that you have to go through the nacelles to get to the other part of the ship really going to fly?

You said it yourself, the design doesn't make sense. Why can't it make sense and still be cartoony/ugly, if that's what they're going for.

    Exactly.

He's the one who told me my post was merely "my opinion" in the first place.

While I don’t love the idea either, I think Enterprise, Voyager, and maybe even TNG and TAS established there being inhabitable spaces inside the nacelles — which means it’s perfectly reasonable to travel through them. I much prefer the old idea of the nacelles being kept separate for a reason, but it’s done.

I've seen similar jokes in Trek. It will work for some and fall flat for others.

Based on the premise of the series I think they showrunners clearly wanted a ship that was the total opposite of hero ships that came before it. The Cerritos gets the missions that Galaxy's and Excelsiors are too good for. It's supposed to be a fugly weirdo. Also this isn't the first time we've seen weird federation starships, stop carrying on like it is.

    It is doing better?

A couple of reactions are too over-the-top to be for real. Think about this for a minute... It's a cartoon.

Sorry. I'm not inclined to feel particularly strongly about it. So all this nonsense about it is as amusing to me as the actual show itself will hopefully be.

Maybe in the first episode they will need to make an emergency run through an asteroid field, taking everything off from the pylons down, forcing them to rethink the wisdom of such an unwieldy design.

I am not either. Mostly because animated Star Trek strikes me as a terrible idea. The animation is not appealing to my sensibilities and the characters will probably not be for me.

But, as per Star Trek fandom rules, the more over the top hatred of it the more I am amused by it and interested in the project.

Meh, it's a cartoon. I'm not gonna get worked up over a cartoon starship design. I'm just happy they went with the TNG Galaxy class aesthetic.

Well, if they get this worked up about the Nickelodeon show, the one that's actually intended for children, I'm not arguing with them about it... I'll have my niece take over for me. "Here's the keyboard! Have at it!" ;)

I the big question for me, is how Cryptic's artists are going to adapt the cartoon designs into the slightly more realistic STO art style.

I think it's more likely where we will have a running gag where a character tries to explain how they get from the Sauce to the hull and will always be interrupted.
