TNG "When the Bough Breaks". TNG didn't know quite what it was since it was going back and forth between Roddenberry's indulgences (aka "Justice"/"Planet of the Baby Oil") and being a thoroughly family-friendly-if-not-kid-leaning show ("When the Bough Breaks","Symbiosis"). This eppy is a bit oversimplified and narrow in scope (the Aldeans wanted only 7 kids on the ship?!), but enjoyable nonetheless. And there are some deeper issues that are pushed aside in favor of the then-topical ozone hole crisis. It's an understated little gem.

TNG "Coming of Age" - Still a fantastic little gem. One scene I thought was there wasn't so it's off to more season one goodness as a marathon...

Because I just finished Forged in Fire, which is of course a prequel to the episode.

Has anybody else noticed that the music of DS9, and especially the main theme, sounds a lot like Paul Hindemith? Particularly his best-known works, Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Weber, and Mathis der Maler? It's always struck me as what it would sound like if Hindemith (who died in 1963) had scored Star Trek.

VOY: Engame 1 & 2. lackluster finale. I do like Kriege as the Borg Queen over Thompson. There is just something creepier about her version.

DS9: He Sound of Her Voice. Nice episode, decent twist. Did like the Quark/Jake/Odo B-story.

    VOY: "Caretaker"

This was really a thrilling lineup. Star Trek is such an amazing universe! You can do anything, the variety it will support is incredible.

TNG “Tapestry” - controversial opinion: I don’t think this is a very good episode even though many consider it a classic. Riffing on “It’s a Wonderful Life” is usually a sign that a series is struggling for ideas. The pace and directing are languid, and I’d love to know what Patrick Stewart made of the script because one of the only times I’ve ever seen this, but he was totally phoning in his performance. He really didn’t seem engaged with the material and all, and even his usual sparring with Q felt flat. Also, sleeping with Marta was plain weird. Not only because of the age gap (she looked about 17), but this was a Q scenario, so wouldn’t it have been on the back of Picard’s mind that Q might um, be watching. Also I wonder if Picard looks down on all his junior grade Lieutenants as “mediocre men” who are better off dead than living such dreadful lives. Not everyone is driven by ambition and career, some people are motivated by contentment and life satisfaction. Rant over :)

Remember, this is not a review thread. It’s a list thread. A brief comment or two we can let slide.

Reviews should go into the appropriate show forum.

    Thanks

So sad that Jadzia dies when she didn’t have to.

The Empath (TOS Blu-ray). One of my favorite 3rd season episodes, even if the Vians do seem like the poor man's Talosians.

I haven't been in the mood to re-watch any episodes the last few days but, when I get back to it, I'm going to continue my TOS Rewatch but also do a DS9 Rewatch at the same time. I'll go back-and-forth between the two. It feels like the right thing to do.

DS9: Shadows and Symbols. Good Benny Russell call back. Also think it’s kinda funny to see Jake smitten by Ezri.
