We have a thread for Disney Plus, I figure it might be right to have one for HBO Max as well. I'm excited for this service, since I found out I was getting it for free because of my internet subscription. I don't have HBO currently, so getting this I might finally be able to finish Veep and Silicon Valley. Also, we have a lot of DC stuff coming, especially the Snyder Cut of Justice League. I'm actually a little overwhelmed as to what is coming on launch day.

The Snyder Cut is of Justice League, not BvS.

We probably won't get HBO Max here in Germany (or anywhere in Europe), but if we did, I'd probably subscribe.

I've been thinking about temporarily switching out my Netflix subscription for another service, and this is pretty high on the list.
Do we know if there will be any big original genre series available on launch day?

Since it looks like Xfiinity isn't partnering up I'm not looking forward to dealing with the cable company to cancel HBO, somehow I imagine it won't be as quick and painless as it shuold be.

I think the new stuff starts trickling in in June. Did you catch up with Doom Patrol, season one would be available at launch which while not new if you haven't seen it yet. Not a series but the Sndyer cut should be available if interested.

It's hard to get a list of what exactly will be available on day one. It looks like they should be getting the Criterion Collection available and Studio Ghibli conent which would be amazing but I don't know if that's all there on day one or not.

I bought the first season of Doom Patrol on Amazon a few months ago, but haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

The Snyder Cut won't be available until 2021, so a long while after launch day.

Looking at the list of original programming, the only big genre series coming this year (but without a specifcied release date) is Ridley Scott's "Raised by Wolves".
On launch day, the only "original" programming available will be "Love Life", a rom-com anthology, the new Looney Tunes Cartoons, a Game Show called Craftopia, "The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo", a dancing competition titled "Legendary", and a couple of acquired British shows comprising of the drama "Trigonometry" and the comedies "Ghosts", "Home" and "Stath Lets FLats".

Might actually be the smarter business move not to drop any big originals right at launch, and instead letting new subscribers delve into the library first. What we've seen with Disney+ was that, while they had record numbers of subscribers at launch, they took a dive when "The Mandalorian" was over and they didn't have any new prestige show lined up.

OK, they have a pretty decent library, so there should still be plenty to watch.

This is like the vaguest launch ever, no 7 day free trial and I have no idea what is actually available at launch and what isn't. It sounds like it should be pretty good, especially if you already do HBO but I really would like to be able to see what is actually available and it's crazy less than 24 hours away that it's not available.

I haven't gotten any emails from AT&T about this service and what they have is very limited. I guess it's coming out tonight a Midnight PDT, but other than that, I don't know much.

I was able to find a list of HBO Max's launch content pretty easily:
    https://screenrant.com/hbo-max-movies-shows-launch-titles/

I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate, however, because it lists Doom Patrol, Batwoman, and Katy Keene as launch titles when it's my understanding that Doom Patrol doesn't hit the service until June 25th and Batwoman and Katy Keene won't hit the service until later.

I just feel like HBO Max is a rip off. There is HBO, HBO GO, HBO NOW. This feels like if Netflix suddenly decided to split their content between it’s current service and a brand new service. Even if Max has some special focus, that would just seem cosmetic in order to make the services look different.

I currently pay $15 a month for HBO. No way in hell am I adding Max. I would consider switching, especially if the price is under $10 a month, if Max gets enough good shows,

^ The content isn't split though, you get all of HBO if you get HBO Max (so they say).

    So it would be:
$15/mo for HBO only via TV
$15/mo for HBO + More via streaming with HBO MAX

The question is whether the extra content warrants shifting to streaming rather than going through cable. If you're OK with streaming you should be able to cancel the TV subscription if you get Max. If you're lucky enough to have AT&T or a participating cable company it's possible you might get HBO Max access for no extra charge with your TV subscription.

(It's really fucking convoluted. I still can't figure out if there's an HBO Max app or if you use the HBO Now app or what?)

HBO Go lets you stream HBO content only if you have HBO through a cable or satellite provider.

HBO Now is a standalone service that lets you stream HBO content without having to have a cable or satellite package that includes HBO.

HBO Max gives you everything you would get from an HBO Now subscription plus a whole lot more non-HBO content.

Also, if you already have HBO through a select list of cable or satellite providers, or are an HBO Now subscriber who gets that service billed directly from HBO itself or through a select group of third-party streaming providers, you will receive access to HBO Max at launch either at no extra cost or without having to cancel your existing HBO Now subscription.

More info on this can be found here: https://www.hbomax.com

I can't sleep, so I updated the HBO Now app to the HBO Max app on my phone, and there is a ton of content to go through.

I can also confirm that the article I linked to wasn't wrong after all and the first seasons of Batwoman, Doom Patrol, and Katy Keene are indeed available.

Doom Patrol Season 2 is the thing that won't be available until June 25th.

I just logged in and everything so far is fine. I found out The Abyss in on this service. The Abyss has never streamed anywhere, not even on Itunes. Might be a movie I watch this weekend given I've never seen it.

Good job of HBO MAX not launching on Roku or LG TV, the devices my family most use for streaming (since the PS4 is too far away from the wifi to stream TV very well) Probably would have at least tried it out, especially since my Dad and brother would probably enjoy the HBO specific content, but we're not moving the PS4 into the living room for it. Not launching on some of the biggest streaming devices (Roku and Amazon Fire) seems really stupid and honestly amateurish, they're already the most expensive major streaming service, and now they also have the most limited availability of the major streaming services.
