...and it’s the first of a trilogy of single-disc releases that will pair two Doctors! Coming in August. News article here.
That image makes them look like they're in the middle of a contest to see who can make their eyes the widest. Then Gowron walks in and puts them both to shame.
Best news of the day, week, month, and so far year. This is an audio story I'd been waiting for ever since I'd become a Whovian!
From the recording dates it sounds like another story to come out of the global situation. I’ll definitely pick this one up.
It was definitely recorded remotely— the 26th March date actually makes it part of the very first day of remote work, which involved Tom Baker— but for the story itself to be post-lockdown they would have had to come up with the idea, secured Baker and Tennant’s participation, and had the script written, edited, and approved within about ten days to make that first recording date. Which isn’t impossible, but I don’t know why they’d rush like that if they weren’t releasing it until August anyway. The recorded-in-lockdown Tom Baker story that was released earlier this month was a pre-existing script for a future season of the Fourth Doctor Adventures that they realized they could bring forward as a stand-alone release for production during lockdown. The Fifth Doctor would appear to be one in one of the other “Out of Time” stories, given that Davison recently posted a photo of his home recording setup, and an eagle-eyed fan noticed that the script he was working on had dialogue attributed to “The Fifth Doctor” instead of just “The Doctor.”
The post in question. I have to say that's a pretty sweet set-up! (Although guess the bit about the script is this one but the first one is a better view of the set-up)
Apparently David Tennant had also repurposed a closet to record dialogue for DuckTales, so I’d guess that’s where he recorded his part of Out of Time. (No photos of his setup as far as I know, unfortunately.)
I was going to make a joke about not using a public washroom like the actors on Star Trek TAS did, but then I realized, public washrooms are kind of out of the question at the moment.

I've been long waiting for this ever since the Tenth Doctor joined Big Finish. This is a day-one buy for me!
Every release should have, frankly. Wouldn't hurt them would it? I usually put the subtitles on the program anyway.
This comes out tomorrow. Still no full announcement of who’s in the second and third releases, although Big Finish have said on their podcast that two of the featured Doctors are Davison and Colin Baker. The actress Joanna von Kampen retweeted Big Finish’s announcement of the release date for the Tom/Tennant one and said she had loved playing opposite Tennant and Colin, and when someone asked, “Er, don’t you mean Tom?” she said no. She’s not in the cast for the first one either, so it’s possible one of the future ones is Tennant and Colin and she’s just confused about the release order. Or she might be in a Tenth Doctor/River Song play, one of which also features Colin and Peter Davison in some capacity.
Big Finish have confirmed that all three Out of Time releases feature Tennant joining forces with a past Doctor to face a famous monster. In June 2021 the Tenth and Fifth Doctors will fight the Cybermen, while in July 2022 the Tenth and Sixth Doctors will battle the Weeping Angels. I listened to the Tennant/Tom Baker one on my lunch break this morning. And it’s... fine. Tennant and Baker are great, and the script hits all the appropriate notes (diabolical Dalek scheme, emotional hook for the guest character, clever plan to save the day). What’s missing is the sense that the Doctors are properly sparking off each other. It’s not the remote recording, I think; it’s that Matt Fitton’s script doesn’t offer the kind of sharp inter-Doctor banter that the best multi-Doctor stories have. They bicker a bit, yes, but it’s not clever bickering. Their interactions are more sweet than anything else. That works, especially in the final scene, but I’d still call it a missed opportunity. It’s odd, but I think the best cross-Doctor interaction in a Big Finish story is in River Song series two, which isn’t even a “proper” Doctor Who story.
This was bloody brilliant! I think it was my first time to hear an audio adventure with David Tennant in it. It's probably one of my favorite audio stories. Tennant sounds like he just finished filming series 4 yesterday. Still has all that energy and charm. A complete joy to listen to. The music is excellent, takes me right back to the time when the 10th was on our screens, the next best thing to a live action return. Can't wait for future adventures. Please please please a 9th and 10th Doctor crossover that would be amazeballs. Spoiler: IMO I think... there is a mild hint of his Timelord Victorious persona which might be something that leads into that media.
