I will at least give Branon Braga a small benefit of the doubt, as his plans for Enterprise were unique, having the entire first season take place on Earth and spend that entire season getting Enterprise ready, meeting and learning about the characters as Archer seeks to build up his crew before the fateful launch of Humanity's first true starship. I think there could have been some good character and story growth here, especially in a serialized format,... but the network wanted something tailored for syndication just as Voyager was, and he was overruled. It wouldn't be until season 3 that the potential was truly realized.

That’s a great idea for the series, but my wonder is when did he come up with it? Was it before or after Moore dominated with nBSG? Where’s it documented from the time in question? Berman & Braga were the dominant powers in Trek for a long time, and most of what I saw come out of that period was, to be blunt, alternately heartbreaking and disgusting.

Both VOY and ENT went to great lengths to be different then were primarily known for 1) not, while 2) appealing to the lowest common denominator.

In his personal life, Braga enjoyed his young Hollywood executive bachelorhood and would regale Berman with stories whenever he’d come back from wherever, which Berman would enjoy vicariously. Even that would have been fine if it didn’t make it into the work. Stuff like Seven in the catsuit, T’Pol in that de-con scene, and the tapping into the overall post-9/11 Bush Era zeitgeist was problematic from the get-go, but that’s another discussion.

To use a wrestling analogy - Rick Berman and Branon Braga are the Vince Russo and Ed Farrara of Star Trek :P
Hmm... would that make JJ Abrams the Eric Bischoff and Gene Roddenberry the Vince McMahon?

Hmm, interesting, I would have to think on that one. I was imagining more along the lines of the behind the scenes names. Oh Alex Kurtzman would totally be Kevin Dunn LOL
