It would be a bit of a giggle.

I'm really hoping we get another exploding alien inside a guy.

Trek was trying to tell the same types of stories as shows like Gunsmoke. It didn't want to be the Lone Ranger. I never got the impression it was going for "balance".

Yeah that one was pushing it. You can tell as it was heavily censored in later tv runs. It wasn’t that bloody though.

It was gruesome as I'll get out and, as has been stated in this thread, completely unnecessary.

Yet, Trek survived. And Trek can handle this too.

Honestly, I don't even think Discovery ever quite knew what it wanted to be. It's a series that suffers from an identity crisis.

So... elephant in the room... Are we going to see the same-looking Klingons or are they going to take a page from Picard’s Romulans and have “northern” and “southern” Klingons?

I want some DSC Klingons, possibly mixed with some ST ID Klingons.

There will almost certainly be DSC Klingons, but I’m also hoping for some smooth-heads out there as well.

I hope every type of Klingon appears, even "Bob the Discount Klingon" *

I'm still convinced everyone has their own version of what Gene's sacred "vision" is.

But, a quick Google search takes me to Roddenberry.com and reads, in part, this.

"Its enduring resonance is a testament to Gene Roddenberry’s vision for a future where diversity and tolerance are encouraged and in which inclusivity and equality are the norm. In the future, the Star Trek creator believed, the human potential to be “remarkable” would yield a better, fairer world — “a world with no hunger, poverty, prejudice, or greed”.

Now maybe I was watching an entirely different show, but, at no point in either Star Trek: Discovery or Star Trek: Picard did I see any of that being violated. People like to think because action and space battles happen that it's in direct conflict with Gene's constitution. The key is HUMANITY.

Besides, action scenes draw more eyeballs. More eyeballs mean more money. That was Gene's vision, too.

We do love Kirk v Spock in "Amok Time" and Kirk v Gorn in "Arena".

Pretty cool news. Spock is the best part of DIS season 2, and by the time Pike gets the time stone he is pretty cool too. We didn't see enough of Number 1 but I kind of like her from the Trek Short. I hope she isn't a secret Vulcan, or Romulan. I just don't want her having some mysterious huge secret instead of her calling herself Number 1 being more about her sense of professionalism.

I suppose they will want to start the series post-DIS season 2 so the characterization from that doesn't go to waste and so everyone is in place. I really hope they don't introduce any of the other characters from TOS. I actually dislike the idea of the TOS crew having all known each other since the start of their careers and having almost always been together. I prefer to think they came together on the Enterprise and formed their bonds there. That way Kirk would have served on a bunch of different ships by the time he reaches Enterprise as captain. Too bad the short Trek established Spock as always having been on Enterprise his whole career from Ensign to first officer.

I agree with you that the gore was gratuitous and would prefer that was omitted.

Not so concerned about language. For the purpose of watching with younger kids, I'd be less bothered about them hearing some naughty words than seeing, for instance, Kirk trying to rape Rand, or Picard being tortured, or characters engaging in self-harm.

When I was watching Trek as a kid it was airing at midnight, and half the ads were for phone sex lines - not exactly family friendly viewing!
