I wouldn’t either, beyond it being prorated for the games missed.

Like suspensions and DL stints, it's a different thing for starting pitchers vs every day players. Still, if he's got a legit beef, more players might say "hell to the no".

Pitchers get paid for games on the roster, just like every other player.

Post-2020 Yankees have $615 million dollars on their books for players. They better hope COVID-19 is figured out at some point.

Somebody needs to remind Blake that thousands of people are putting themselves at risk every day to go to work and treat the sick and keep this country running.

But he won't play baseball for reduced pay. Okay Blake, sure.
Had he simply said that he's not comfortable playing because of the potential health risk, I wouldn't have a single problem with that.

You sign a contract, you uphold the contract.

You ratify an agreement for reduced pay, you abide by that.

You get told by ownership "lol, eat shit?" Tell them to fuck off.

This. Ownership makes a shit ton of money for essentially writing checks. All this time, some of the profit these folks make should've been put in a rainy day fund for just this type of situation. There's no reason for the players to accept any cut to their salary beyond it being prorated for the games they are on the field.

People tend to be judgmental when folks who are paid a great deal more than they are demand their wages.
It's numbers on a page. If the "essential" worker had access to the same resources and were protected by a negotiated contract, they would protest if their pay was cut.

I just think it's a really bad look for Snell to make such comments considering the situation.

But it isn’t a bad look that the owners are trying to publicly twist the players arms?

Yes, all of it is a bad look. If MLB can't play this year it will be because billionaires are squabbling with millionaires, not because of the virus, and that's ultimately the worst look for all involved.

I just think MLB owners come off looking far worse. The players already negotiated in good faith on what the 2020 season would look like payroll-wise back when this all started.

    Now the owners want more.

Whether it's millionaire athletes being squeezed by billionaire owners or underpaid, overburdened essential workers being pushed to the edge by CEOS that think nothing of spitting them out so long as they turn a profit next quarter, it all boils down to labor being fucked over by management.

And yet without the owners and their ballparks, no baseball player could play baseball for a living.

My apologies. I forgot how rabidly anti-management most of you are. Carry on.

I’m anti-management when they try to renege on a deal they made.

I don't see what the big deal is. If I was going to risk my life I sure as heck would at least want to get paid for it. Especially when risking it involved something like playing baseball instead of being a doctor or scientist where my contribution would at least be used in away that is saving lives.

Somehow I missed this. I will agree with you on this one point. You're right, the owners and players appear to have had a deal in place that the owners now want to alter. That's pretty messed up.

However, Snell's is talking out both sides of his ass. He's appears to be okay with the risks as long as he gets full pay but not if he only gets half pay. Looks like he's putting a dollar figure on his own safety.
