ID and 09, in that order, are this “older fan’s” (watching Trek for 47 years and counting) favourite Trek films by a country mile (and second only to TOS seasons 1-2 for favourite Trek overall). Hell yeah, bring some more Kelvin movies.

These movies got me into Trek so naturally, they have a special place in my heart. I would absolutely want to see more of the Kelvin Timeline even if it means having to wait a few more years.

I am also a huge fan of the ship designs in these movies and I really want to see other types of federation ships in this universe as well as the new Enterprise-A.

I like the kelvin differences in tone and style because in part they remind me of the books that bough religiously until college.....

They need ways to brink in more female characters. I do wish they has switched at least someone to female like battlestar galactica did in it reboot, and I liked/loved both of those in their way So I dont see a problem liking the kelvin timeline. I like both cats and dogs as well and they are very different.

But seriously they need some female main cast members. As a female when I got m computer graphics degree, I was one of two females in a major of 45 total so only I think kelvin uhura needs some non-male buddies/co-workers. Perhaps out of the main command structure like STO was with McCoy, but really preferably with a added female main like saavik should have been.

And to knitpick, there should be at least a couple male character in a kilt so the stupid mini dress things doesn't look like such an paternalistic artifact. I kept seeing a parody homemaking basic instinct's sharon stone interrogation every time Uhura sat down then moved.

I mean really! In this day and age there are plenty of female SF fans, so if you are going to objectify the actors and be inclusive, put in some males in kits and see how fun it is to sit in a short dress on plastic/non-permeable surfaces.

And are there NO female security officers. a female security officer bridge crew from a amazonian culture would be fair. If she was older like Karl Urbans McCoy that would give another female buddy for teh group.....an give McCoy a love interest/ another adult to talk to. She could even be how he manages his phobias and give him a confident/counsellor/priest type figure.

So yest I like kelvin and am more emotionally and intellectually invested in it, like I felt more of a relationship with Babylon 5 characters reality opposed to the glossy star trek worlds that always felt too idealized till now.

Now just add some freaking female main leads to the testosterone fest, and maybe a horta ir two. Who doesnt loeve living pizzas that have a huge sense of humor, innocence, intelligence and loyalty (from the books) rather than blowing the budget on unneaded special effects like classic British SciFi did/does so well along with actualy *gasp* stories not just flashy expensive effects.

The last trek film literally has uhura as a female lead character, jayla and a female admiral.

I feel bad saying it, but I'm going with "nay."

I loved all three films, and saw each one multiple times in the theater. But, the property was so horribly mismanaged by Paramount and it just doesn't seem like they know how to make these films as successful as they could have been.

So, I think at this point, it's played out. The cast is older now and on to other things. The brilliant momentum they had built on the success of the first film is 11 years old now (almost the length of time between TMP and TUC for God's sake). I don't want to see them make a movie that will have an embarrassing and limp box office showing. I'd rather remember the fun and excitement of these (relatively) successful and popular films.

I would love to see more of the Kelvin timeline, but I'm not sure how hot of an idea doing another huge budget Trek film is considering how bad Beyond did at the box office.

HOWEVER... it doesn't HAVE to be a movie now that all the rights are unified. I think a Kelvin timeline limited series/miniseries in place of a Star Trek 4 would be a great move if they could get everyone back. If not, even some sort of a spinoff show (John Cho/Captain Sulu!!) would be great.

Yes think it would feel abit strange/confusing for movie audiences in general (not just trekkers) to be confronted with a 4th Kelvin crew movie and expected to be excited .. It'd probably be a similar 'er..remember this?.. why?' 250m ww response that greeted Xmen Dark Phoenix after the 3rd underwhelmed.. and that was only 3y after (and 8y since First Class)..a 4th Kelvin would be at least 6 (and 13y+ since ST09). Theres all the new near movie quality Trek series now being made (shades of what happened with the Trek movies after IV with the films being less an event due to all the TV trek) especially Picard which is like a continuation of the TNG movies anyway.. and of course now theres covid so anything not already in production might struggle to get made anytime soon..or at all..we are in uncharted waters regarding the future of cinema, and how covid and streaming is going to affect it etc

Really the only chance Kelvin 4 had of being made was if the Hemsworth film had happened and had been released summer 2019 (like Dark Phoenix) or had the Tarantino project started shooting early this year (either with QT directing or someone else) and would've been in lockdown for a few months now about to resume (like Matrix 4, The Batman, Jurassic 6 etc)

Except dark phoenix was garbage, and badly edited.

I honestly think if a Trek film came out fans would get excited. Pushing forward with more Trek with a popular cast seems like a good idea.

Call me selfish but I think Kelvin leaves a lot of untapped potential on the table to just ignore.

I agree. Kelvin basically sped up the character development highlight from the TOD movies, and switched a few things with who did what, like kirk not spock dying and having to be revived. But interesting things like the rhinnasu/romulans cold war being a focus more than the implied klingon hot war becoming detente by STtUC for instance, opens up things like klingon and romulan/rhinnasu exchange officers serving in star fleet as specialist rather than attending star fleet academy. For that matter since kronos (or praxis) was already destroyed and how/why not officially explained in cannon so it could speed up the alliance process.

Besides I like the more mature kirk in a younger actor like pine. That kirk might avoid death in STG and just retire or something. Maybe he a a grand-kid or something in this timeline that he need to raise or something because parents dead.

I find the more realistic/darker kelvin timeline more hopeful in some way.

And the kelvin movies are the top 3 grossing movies of any trek movies (look at the overseas gross), its just that the studio charged back alot of interesting expenses for tax and talent compensations (lie residuals and profit sharing deals) so it artificially reduced the apparence of the gross after compensating for the net profit/loss. Its an accounting trick, and while a gray legal area and immoral is probably not easliy legally provable.

I liked Dark Phoenix. Was it a masterpiece? No way. Was it an enjoyable 2 hours with dear friends? Yes. It reminds me a lot of Beyond in that it felt like just another franchise movie rather than a big event like ST'09/ID and Days of Future Past or Logan.

Just a thought.. taking note of previously unlikely stuff being announced now like Synders Justice League, Keaton returning to Batman, Twister sequel/remake, Margot Robbie in Pirates etc its like due to the pandemic creating a lot of uncertainty about the future studios are now focusing on known sure fire stuff they know people will be interested in (that ordinarily probably wouldn't have gone ahead were it not for covid19)..and big names are having to sign up for stuff they probably wouldn't have normally considered doing purely to secure future work/$s .. so maybe studios will also be greenlighting stuff that was stuck in development hell/cancelled/shelved/up in the air e.g. Weaver in Alien 5 which was newly rumoured with Walter Hill a couple of weeks ago , maybe the Tarantino (story) Trek? or even the Hemsworth Trek 4? (might be able to work out those pay negotiations now?)

For me, "ST: Beyond" would just be a very underwhelming end for that 'era' in the movie history. While the first one brought a bit of 'epicness' in the franchise, the third one was just another standalone-adventure. Don't get me wrong: Such 'episodes' belong to TREK, of course, but than again, I would just have one movie 'to end them all', that is big enough to fullfill this function.
