TOS: Spock (is that controversial over Kirk? I'm comfortable with it!)
TNG: Picard. Only going to be him or Data surely?
DS9: The Sisko comfortably. Honourable mentions to Kira and Dukat.
VOY: Probably Seven Of Nine I suppose.
ENT: T'Pol I think... (it's not a strong field of runners is it?)
    DIS: Easily Saru
    PIC: Still Picard.

TOS = Spock. For he is completely Spocktacular.
TNG = Barclay or Ro. By comparison everyone else is a giant popsicle stick. Michelle Forbes likely would not have left if she wasn't cast for that other big show... Honorable mentions might be Geordi or Yar.
DS9 = Sisko if not Garak. Sisko is compelling as an authority figure and Garak is the most entertaining as far as any character can go.
VOY = Seven; re-leaning her humanity after being robbed of it as a child...
    ENT = Porthos the doggie?
    DIS = Saru, no question
PIC = Raffi. I think the acting has a HUGE part in that decision...

To my mind, the truly iconic Trek characters are that line of sort-of-human "outsiders" that broke through into mass consciousness: Spock, Data, and Seven.

With honorable mentions for Kirk, Picard, and Scotty (thanks to the whole world knowing "beam me up, Scotty!" as a catchphrase)

That's kind of how I was thinking too. Characters who at a glance, to even the most removed of the public, might actually still recognize them from being on Star Trek.

Spock edging out Kirk for sure. They couldn't even kill him off & carry on. He HAD to come back to keep going

Then probably Data just slightly edging out Picard. After all, have they ever similarly been able to make Star Trek that has Picard in it, without it also to some degree having Data in it? Not to date. I suppose you can give Picard credit for being an iconic one for having his own titled show now though.

Voyager admittedly has to be Seven, for what it's worth. I mean, it says a lot that we got her back now too & haven't heard from the others yet.

It's kind of funny that having so many oddball characters on DS9 kind of diminished how iconic any one of them could be. I actually think Quark was the most iconic of those. He's the one that gets offhandedly mentioned more often throughout the franchise. He's the standout, but arguably Sisko himself is probably more iconic. First Black captain, known actor, cool as cool ever got.

Basically because of the actor playing on it, Archer is likely the most iconic of ENT, if it even qualifies as having anything iconic about it at all. I also haven't seen anything I'd call iconic about Disco. I guess Saru is the biggest standout

TOS... Spock. Kirk being a close second.

TNG... Data. For so many reasons. Picard being a close second.

DS9...Garak most likely will fit this. Hardest series to gauge, honestly, because so many characters are so well-rounded.

VGR... Seven is my first pick, with The Doctor being a close second.

ENT... I lean toward Trip in this case.

DSC... I would say Saru, but the series is still sort of finding itself, so this could be different later.

PIC... Picard, for obvious reasons. Data, a close second. Honestly, a reverse of TNG's list.

    I'd say
TOS: Spock, no doubt. I hate TOS and pretty much everything about it, yet even I like Spock.
    TNG: Data, again, pretty obvious.
DS9: Here it gets a bit difficult, because most of the characters get a lot of development and time to shine...maybe Quark? Dukat? Kira? Sisko? Garak?
    VOY: Seven, no doubt.
    ENT:...eh....uhm...erm.....

The biggest question I would have is, iconic to who. To yourself, to trekkies or to the whole world in general.

If it’s to the whole wide world I think there are really only three iconic Star Trek characters, Kirk, Spock and Picard.

Sisko, Data, Odo, Archer, Seven, the Doctor, Saru, etc...don’t even register.

I have to agree with this. As far as pop culture goes, Spock, Kirk and Picard are about the only Star Trek icons. But mainly Spock, I have to say.

As far as fans goes, well as I’ve said, no two fans are alike, so little consensus will be made. But here are the ones I find iconic:

    TOS: Spock
    TNG: Picard and Data
DS9: so hard... special mention must go to Kira, Odo and Quark
VOY: given the way the entire series shifted its focus, I’d have to say Seven of Nine, much to Kate Mulgrew’s chagrin
ENT: The only iconic thing I found about this series was...Trip in his underwear. There, I said it.
    DSC: Burnham and Saru
    PIC: Picard obviously

I would still put Kirk at the top of the list both personally and pop culture wise. Maybe at an earlier time it was Spock. But I think now, especially because Shatner is still visible it’s Kirk.

When I think "iconic," I think of it from this angle: if I am a marketing executive and I have one chance to use a single character in an advertisement the effectiveness of which will determine the future of my employment, which character am I going to use to try to get the quickest recognition for that series?

    TOS: Spock
    TNG: Data
    DS9: Sisko
    VOY: 7 of 9
    ENT: T'Pol
    DSC: Saru
    PIC: Picard

Interesting how, more often than not it ends up being the alien character.
