Season 1 - Episode 16 - "Through the Looking Glass"

Kate/BW: I like the time spent on her guilt, and her second-guessing her violent tendencies, but with all that she has going on, she would not tolerate any of Alice's crap--yet she does. That's a problem (the unending "sisterhood" narrative) this series needs to drop ASAP. That, and her not being sorry for murder places her firmly on the disgusting side of the tracks. There has to be a remorseful turnaround here.
Well, what do you know, I had a fragment of a hope that she might come to some of her senses and betray Alice, and it turns out her "team-up" was part of a plan with Jacob. She still has to atone for murder, and rolling around drunk with an old girlfriend is not the way to do that.

Luke: Finally. He knows about Reggie Harris (his father's allegedly framed killer) not being anything other than--as Harris put it--"a winning lottery card" (a black male with dreds) to be guilty of murder. With his own murder (and assuming its one of the Crows who is also targeting Sophie--unless her own mother is behind that), Luke has no one to turn to, with Kate currently being on the puppet strings of a psycho.
Still, early in the episode, the fact she wanted to stand by him at the hearing shows how far they've come...and how far they have not, since she's tight-lipped about all things Alice.

Alice / Mouse: Alice claiming she set Kate up to 1) know Cartwright would confess to Kate and 2) Kate would kill him was too "master plan-y" to be bought. Now that she's locked up with mouse, we can expect the two to plan to get revenge on everyone in Kate's life, whether she escapes on her own, or has help from another villain. Possibly another Bat-villain.

Jacob: Instead of allowing himself to accept a completely nonsensical blackmail scheme, he could have subdued her with ease (even after she swiped his gun), and marched her off to Arkham--or anywhere else, but the reverse con was clever. Once again, he's a target, but in the wake of his conversation about Harris and the missing footage, its a good guess who is after him.

She's as looney as a tune, so there's not much chance of psychiatrists or GCPD believing her story about Cartwright's murder.

Mary: Another episode where Mary receives some information without having to discover anything through investigation. Her entire parting words with Luke were details he assumed on his own.

NOTES: Fast-paced episode, and keeping up the high standards.

    GRADE: B+

I'm guessing that Alice will be kept on ice for a time at least, while the show focuses on the Crow-corruption conspiracy storyline for the moment.

Meanwhile, that ominous note left for Alice hints at yet another of Batwoman's enemies from the comics. "The Many Arms of Death," perhaps.

This episode came out early on iTunes. Must have been an error.

It's interesting how differently they're interpreting Kate here than the comics did. As I understand it, the comics' Batwoman differs from Batman in that, due to her military background, she's more comfortable with using lethal force than he is. I like it that this version of Kate is more remorseful at killing -- though I'm tired of the Arrowverse letting its regulars get away with murder as long as they promise not to do it again (see also Harry Wells and Dinah Drake, and of course Oliver Queen and Sara Lance a bunch of times, though at least Oliver was convicted of some of them).

I don't quite buy the Lucius Fox murder plotline. If you're trying to cover up the fact that you murdered someone, then gunning down the guy you framed for it is kind of counterproductive, just drawing more attention to the conspiracy. (Not to mention that real snipers don't use visible laser sights, precisely because it can tip people off and give them a chance to dodge. Plus, in Gotham City, there's the risk that shining red laser dots on things would attract Catwoman...)

Anyway, I wonder if Luke's quest for the truth/vengeance will lead to him becoming Batwing. If nothing else, he's definitely heading toward a romance plot with Mary.

I honestly thought Luke was going to be framed for the fall guy's murder.

The forensics would clear him right away -- no powder burns on the body or his hand, and the bullet from a sniper rifle would be distinct from a handgun bullet.

But this is the second time in a matter of weeks that Luke has seen someone shot dead by a sniper right in front of him. That's got to be freaking him out.

Though any honest and comptent forensic examiner would have ruled that out right away but we're talking about Gotham City here

Considering the production was halted and is unlikely to resume in the near future this could have served as a nice point to end the season. Do we know on which episode they were before shutting down?

Couldn't help but notice that the stunt co-ordination and camera work in the fight scenes just had a very dramatic uptick in quality. One assumes Arrow ending has freed up their A-team?

The A-Team was on Black Lightning--their fight scenes are always top notch and action looks painful.

My favorite thing about this show is Alice! I enjoy the show overall and can't wait for it to return...along with all the other DC CW shows.

Haven't been in this thread in a while, and was just checking it to see where the series has got to (I don't have access), and this comment caught my eye.

As I said, I haven't seen this so I don't know the details of this instance, but in general terms, this is unrealistic. A shooter will need time to line up a shot at a small target like an exposed chin. If said target is in motion, it isn't worth it, and going for the body shot will make for a more reliable stop. Once down, you can walk over and take your time blowing the bottom half of their face off, but unless/until you get that chance, a smart shooter will go with his training and go for the center mass.

Looking forward to these, truncated production process though they've now had to live and work with.
