I really think you can get through the others well enough one film apiece. Although GEOD will need a lot of changes... Honestly, I'd skip it if I was making the movies. It's not needed for the last two which are sexy action adventures in space and could sink the whole franchise when you have three hours of various people getting lessons in philosophy from a giant CGI worm.

They obviously have faith in Dune that they're already working on the TV show but, at the same time, not enough faith to have filmed both movies back to back. I really don't see this bombing like Lynch's version but it could hit the Blade Runner/Mad Max spot where it is critically acclaimed but financially "Meh". Then they will probably be waiting for the shows success/failure to decide whether the IP is worth continuing to adapt or not.

I too am always dubious of when they split something into two and don't film back to back. Historically films like this usually don't film the sequel and then they aren't made. I'm not a fan of Chalamet but he has been good in the few things I've seen him in so I'm optimistic at best.

They're not filming them together? I thought that was standard for this kind of thing.

They finished filming the first one last June.

Not filming them together may make a fair bit of sense. Chalamet will be a bit older when the second part is filmed and that fits in well with the essence of the first book.

He and Lady Jessica are with the Fremen for a couple of years before they make their move against the Harkonnens.

Filming them one at a time does worry me a bit though.

I have zero fear that the movie will be good. I have absolute confidence in Denis. What I fear is the movie not making enough money and ending the whole thing on the starting blocks.

Which might make sense if they cast an actual 16 year old for the role. They didn't. They cast a guy in his mid 20's. He isn't changing a whole lot between 24 and 27.

No stilsuit hoods. The armour looks horrible. They don't need armour, they have shields!

The leaked Atreides logo was accurate. Not a fan.

So the gender swapped Kynes leak/rumour is true. I'm for it. Nothing about Kynes requires the character to be male. Not looking forward to all the online whining though.

The eyes are fine. Still would prefer a deep navy filling them entirely but they're a decent design choice.

Almost looks like Villeneuve's doing an updated version of the Lynch movie rather than his take on the books.

My first thought on the stillsuits was: nice update on the classic Lynch/Bob Ringwood design.

Looks to me like a combo of the Lynch and miniseries stillsuits. The lunch nose plug and no hood but colouring and styling closer to mini.

As long as they keep the weirding modules this should turn out OK...

I like what we're seeing so far. The stillsuits are a bit more similar to the Lynch versions than I was expecting, but there aren't a ton of way to do them, so I'm not to surprised.

Please tell me you forgot to add "don't" keep the modules.. please? It is one of my real gripes about the movie, especially when the book has such an elegant scene explaining why the Fremen are such badass warriors, even quite a bit better than the imperial Sardaukar (imagine everyone going OOhh and Ahhh about Seal Team 6, they get sent to backwater Afghanistan and then get completely dominated by what was considered to be illiterate Farmers :D ).

Love the stillsuits, the have a nice utilitarian look to them and are not too high tech looking to make it believable to be produced by Fremen without a big industrial complex.

Not too convinced on the Atreides armor though.. looks too much "SciFi" and maybe even Cosplay-y to come off as a piece of believable and practical military tech. It looks like movie armor but i'll reserve my final thoughts after seeing it in action, may change my mind once the shield technology comes into play.

Characters look cool and fit the part though i didn't imagine Idaho to be a hulking beast like Momoa, more normal sized but fit (and experienced like hell). I love Momoa and can't wait to see him lay waste to Sardaukar to cover Paul and Jessica while they are fleeing from the assault.

I hope the trailer isn't too far off, let's keep fingers crossed that they keep the December release date. It is the one movie this year i'm really excited about and want to see. I just hope it lives up to expectations but so far Villeneuve didn't disappoint even when tackling fan favorites like Blade Runner. It might not be the exact vision that fans have but if his vision works i'm sure fans will be happy.

i agree the armor looks very cosplay-y. I suspect/hope it will look much better in final film :techman:

    Quoted for truth.

Among the many stupid things in the Lynch film, the weirding modules were one of the stupidest.

Thousands of people performing Bruce Lee-level kung fu in those rubber suits - in 100+ degree desert sand?!? The CGI of today just might - might - be up to pulling that off. To expect it in the early 1980's is beyond absurd. The weirding module was a child of practicality, not stupidity.

Except that having them run around in black rubber suits was also an artistic choice by Lynch. Fremen wear (bedouin like) robes covering the stilsuits. Lynch himself made the decision to discard the robes (which would have meant no need to wear the suits underneath), then made the stillsuits rubber, and made them black.
