Yes, the ending was rushed. However, I found it pretty satisfying personally. The battle between the Super Wraith ship and Atlantis in Earth orbit was pretty epic. And Atlantis did finally come home. The final shot of Atlantis in the San Francisco Bay was very nice.

There is a series of Atlantis novels and an unconnected series of comics that both pick up after the Atlantis finale.
Sounds good to me, Stargate is right up his alley. If JJ Abrams can do both Star Trek and Star Wars, then Kurtzman can do Star Trek and Stargate.

If shows like The X-Files, Will & Grace, and Frasier can all come back over a decade after it ended the first time, I don't see why SGU couldn't if someone really wanted to bring it back.

I definitely miss SG-1, even though it had gotten pretty long in the tooth. I don't really miss SGA; I'd pretty much dropped it by the end of season 3. I do miss SGU because, even though it started off shakily, by the end of season one it had gotten good and by the end of season two it had gotten great. I'm disappointed by the lack of closure and the missed opportunities left in the wake of its premature demise.

I've been thinking about starting a Stargate watch. I've never seen the series (I've seen the movie a few times) but I think of all I want to see Stargate Atlantis. I know all the series are on Amazon and I do have plenty of time now.

I decided I was going to start a watch of the Stargate franchise and work on that this year. Currently watching the first episode of SG-1. I'm looking forward to Stargate Atlantis. Does anyone want to follow a Stargate thread if I created one? It would be light on spoilers though, which might be a turn off to many people.

I started rewatching Universe on Hulu, I like it. I'd really like to see someone pick up something new in that universe.

What I liked a lot about the franchise was the excellent use of pop culture references used throughout which made the universe feel more real with the characters. References like O’Neil and the Enterprise and the constant Alien ones in Atlantis. There are many examples I can give.

I thought the end wasn't perfect but all things considering I do feel it could have been worse like how SG-1 ended. I really wish we had gotten some more of those Stargate movies because I know one of them would have been about Atlantis and it would have no doubt brought even better closure to the show.

You know what I wish they would do is to a kind of Stargate movie or mini-series that combined characters from all the shows and then have that connect into a possible new tv show.

What I would do for a new tv show is to do one of those in-canon reboots and do a new show set in one of those alternate universes only in this one the Stargate has just been found so going out and exploring is brand new again and also they would be back to not having some of the tech they had in the old show like spaceships and so forth. Yet you could see plenty of easer eggs like old characters as the version of that character in this universe. Also a new enemy and make it so the G'ould were destroyed years ago. I would go with a evil Federation of sorts. A bunch of human worlds and a few aliens in alliance who have become this oppressive Empire out in space and now they know about Earth they become their enemy.

Also in this universe the Stargate operates out of Canada which would be nice since we know that is where they would film it. Also the world finds out about in the middle of the first season so the show also takes time to explore the ramifications it has for it's society and thus being able to do political stuff and maybe people or countries on this earth actually wants to join this evil Federation so our show has a little more shades of grey when it comes to our heroes and our earth being the clear good guys and the other humans being the pure bad guys.

I think it's been long enough that we could jump back into the same universe as the other shows. Maybe something happened that the Stargate program and everything associated with it was abandoned shortly after SGU, and we now do a real time jump to 10 years later. There is some big disaster and the only way to deal with it is to restart the Stargate program, and the series follows the first new SG team. There has been a big shift in the galactic power system since the defeat of the series baddies, and now there is some new baddie out there for the SG teams to deal with. Enough time has passed that they can make some pretty drastic changes if they want to, and that would still give them the opportunity to bring back some of the familiar characters if they want to.

Well, how would they cover the 10 year gap? the series happened in "Real Time" with the regular world.. so.. what would have happened? Would they have finally revealed the stargate to the world? would the Earth have colony's now? Is there peace in the galaxy? are we the "Galaxy Police" now?? How would the series continue??

Honestly, if they wanted to, they could use it as a small acknowledgement of current/recent crises of pandemic requiring expansion of off world colonies, necessitating ally development and more policing power in some form.

Ooh a thread which relates to my avatar :)

I only ever got into SG1. I started watching randomly one day when series 6 was being shown in the UK waaaay back in around 2004. SG1 people will know what happened the series after so I stopped watching. I've never been able to get passed "Heroes". I've got series 1 to 7 on DVD and only watch it from time to time.

Like I said, my version would have had the whole program shut down right after SGU ended, and they restart it at the beginning of the show. So the 'gate, and the ships and all of that have been sitting gather dust for the last 10 years.
That's actually a pretty cool idea to. Instead of trying to push back on the tech, they could embrace it and go even further with it.

I enjoyed SG, less so as RDA was phased out and then left completely. The other spin-offs did little for me. If they brought back SG1 with O'Neill, I might be interested.

Rda is 70 now! Unless ur needed or a 4 star general, 55 is the cut off for service.

They would need a reason to shut the gate down and mothball the most powerful fleet in the tri galaxy area.. Military of the world wouldn't stop till they had 50 ships or more, space stations etc.

Not only that but I saw him do a interview and he looks like he is in really bad shape so I don't think he could pull off action scenes. But you could still have him involved as a civilian instructor or something. Personally I like the idea that Jack O'Neil is now President of the United States. Maybe he shows up once in awhile but of course with that job you got plenty of reasons for him not to. I do think they should have at least one regular from the old shows. To me it really comes down to Carter or Rodney and maybe Dr Beckett and Keller. Plus we need at least a line tossed in to give up some closure on Universe but I would kind of prefer we saw Eli because it would at least let us know he found away to survive at the end. I was thinking of characters I would go with.

I would expand the team to a 5 team group. Also we would see more missions were like in the movie you send many people on a mission. The stargate is public knowledge now and even though you have a earth gate Stargate Command is forced to operate off planet due to fears that something can come through and kill everyone like seemed to almost happen a lot on the old show. Plus it's a neutral place and not in America were naturally other countries would flip out over America having something like that over them. The planet would even have it's own little earth town with things like a movie theater, grocery store and things like that so people could have a taste of home so far away. It would be like a Atlantis and a joint Operation. the characters would be.

1 You would have a older Japanese man who is very rich corporate type and basically used his wealth to get the position but the twist is he is actually a good leader. He grew up wanting to go to space and is someone who is very stoic and serious on the outside most of the time but is underneath like a happy teenage boy at being able to have this job.

1 The leader of missions is a robot created specifically for this mission. He is very human like though with a friendly personality and sense of humor. Think of a male Janet from the Good Place. He is trained in military tactics but also science and he was also designed to not be loyal to any one country. He was built basically to serve Earth all of Earth.

2 McKay=He is divorced from Keller and has fallen on hard times. He has basically been working at a Game Stop for the last 5 years. He is given a chance to once again be part of something special and sort of make up for lots of mistakes he has made the last 10 years.

3 A female British Soldier who is B-sexual who has a thing for McKay. McKay and her would have a kind of romantic thing for each other and she is kind of shy and unsure of her because she was recently divorced and she had been with her wife since high school so she has never really been good at dating.

4 A American female archeologist who studied under Daniel Jackson and this is basically her first job after graduating but she is a genius which is how she got this position so young.

5 A female shapeshifter alien who doesn't know how to fight but she is 100 years old and is a kind of guild to the universe and knows a lot more than the humans do about what's really out their than the humans do.
