Will be interesting to see if this comes out internationally, considering that none of the S2 shorts have been officially released outside the US/Canada yet.
They'll probably be released just before the next season of DSC, just like last time. I still have no idea how that makes any sort of business sense
"Two Short Treks on Discovery season 2" ...probably saving the rest for a solo release. "Children of Mars missing from Short Treks" ...probably saving it for Picard season 1 release. Thanks guys, what a comprehensive release pattern. I'll be buying it, and I'm glad it has extras. But it doesn't mean I can't be bummed that it isn't complete. (As of this date.)
I'm glad people who couldn't see "Calypso" will finally be able to watch it. I hope you find that it lives up to its reputation.
Nine shorts with about 2 hours 15 minutes of runtime. Seems about right, that's what most movies go for.
I'm ashamed to say I've never purchased the DSC DVDs, as I can watch it any time I want. I'd assumed these would have been on the season discs, much as Dr. Who does with its shorts. Huh.
Reminds me of all the weird variations on the extras for the recent Trek movies, which made some people get multiple copies of the movies.
Also, does anybody know if and when the second series of short treks will be available in the UK? Netflix doesn’t have any sign of them still.... season one was up fairly quickly if I remember correctly?
The UK didn't get the first season of Short Treks on Netflix until just before the launch of DSC S2 if I remember (and even then it was in the trailers section)
The completist in me is really hoping it gets an international release. Amazon UK didn’t add Discovery’s second season bluray until late in the game, so hoping for the same with this.
Literally like a day or so before the first episode. I don't think Netflix cared for them at all. They didn't even have a description/synopsis like they usually do with all their other content. If the pattern repeats and they pop up on Netflix just before DSC S3 airs what about Children of Mars? That one might prove tricky since it ties into "Picard" and Netflix might not want to be promoting a show that's on one of their rivals (Amazon Prime). Even if it doesn't come out here it'll probably be region free regardless like all the other Trek blu rays have been. There's also the possibility it gets put out in some other territory instead. Germany for instance seems to get a lot of ones that fail to come out anywhere else in Europe for some reason such as many of the TNG "movies" for instance.
Available for preorder on the UK Amazon store. Kinda hoping there'll be a steelbook release to accompany it, but it's not a dealbreaker.
