The REAL Marvel "What If?"

It's really too bad that there was such bad blood between the Marvel movie and TV divisions, and we don't get some real good cooperation and crossovers between them.

Then when Doctor Strange had asked "IS that all?" in Endgame, the answer could have been, "No..." (*cue* Luke Cage, Daredevil, the Runaways, the AGENTS of SHIELD popping out of sling-ring portals.) Or seen them in cross-overs with Ms. Marvel and She Hulk and Winter Solider, etc...

I haven't had a chance to see Runaways yet - but I wall asap and have read some of the comics...and that show's real tragedy was probably timing...if Runaways and The Eternals had been Disney+ series - or movies as originally planned for Eternals - they could have been successes. Now, it's like they were just wasted potential. Good ideas that can't be used again now. (Or so it would seem.)

Then again, we are beyond over-saturated with Marvel projects right now, so maybe there wiould have been no Eternals or Runaways or Cloak and Dagger, at least not for a while...but that probably would have been for the best, worth the wait.

Oh well. Que the Disney+ Squirrel Girl series...

Runaways seasons 1 and 2 were O.K.ish, no more. Season 3 is worse. Cloak and Dagger is...O.K. too. Agents of Shield was always underwhelming but got somewhat better recently. Iron Fist wasn't great although Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Daredevil were, in the main.

Yes, I'd like the TV and cinematic output to have been more cohesive and inclusive, but truth be told, even excluding The Inhumans, the TV was the poor relation in more ways than one.

Now the deadweight like Perlmutter & Co. are out of the way, Marvel have a great future on TV and there's hope some of the better bits of the previous shows will be reintegrated.

    Let's hope.

The problem was Loeb not being willing to put more money into things and think bigger.

After watching this (necessarily imperfect, because of sound mixing) YT video, the only thing I'm genuinely ticked about is that AoU didn't feature the AoS theme when the helicarrier, whose crewing Coulson oversaw, arrives:

It would have been an awesome moment for fans of the show that wouldn't have distracted audiences not in the know in the slightest, like Agent Carter's Jarvis appearing in Endgame. A shame.

Otherwise, meh, the MCU is interconnected enough as is. Any maybe Doctor Strange 2 will feature Strange hopping into various multiverses with cameos from the Netflix series or Fox X-films. We'll see.

Wrong genetically altered by aliens group. The TV show was The Inhumans. The Eternals is an upcoming movie project.

I do agree it is a shame the movie side of Marvel and old regime for the TV wouldn't work together more. I would have loved to have seen the AoS team arriving with the Helicarrier in Age of Ultron or have The Defenders show up in finale battle in Endgame.
One of the biggest disappointments for me is that we didn't find out if the Avengers ever found out Coulson was back. He was such a big part of the pre-Avengers movies, that it always felt a little weird to me that we didn't at least get a reference to him visiting Avengers tower to let them know he was alive, or a phone call to Cap or Iron Man.
I'm very curious to see how integral WandaVision and Loki are going to be to Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I'm assuming they realize not everyone has Disney+, and won't make them totally essential to the movie.

I dunno why I just keep getting these confused.

I had originally thought that Inhumans was going to be a spin-off with the SHIELD Inhuman characters...

As HORRIBLY cheese and uber-low-budget the DC TV series all are (seriously, they make the Marvel TV shows like Inhumans look high-budget)...I think that did a one-up on the MCU and Marvel TV shows with the whole Crises on Infinite Earths ultra-crossover(s).

Basically, ANY AND EVERY live-action movie and TV show that EVER featured a version of DC superhero characters...happened...was "real"...somewhere in the Multiverse. They even had the current Justice League DCEU movie Flash meet the CW TV series The Flash version of Flash.

Even the campy 60's Adam West & Burt Ward Batman series happened. (Now that's a sad sorta "what-if?"...if only Adam West was still alive. But we they did have a Burt Ward cameo (in a *horrible* looking Robin-ish "sweater" of some kind.)

I would have liked to have seen Linda Carter make a cameo - sure she already plays a different DC TV character in Supergirl...but that didn't stop Brandon Routh who plays Atom in Legends of Tomorrow *also* reprising his Superman Returns version of Superman!

(I haven't yet seen all of Crises...I find TV DC to be fun, but sometimes so cheesy I get lactose intolerance. And I'm a guy who loves cheese so much he wants to legit open a free-range dairy, but even TV DC is too much even for me.)

But basically, DC was able to do what the mighty Marvel couldn't do...unite their movie and TV characters.

Apparently the animated WB DC properties have a similar multiverse theme going on. With the EXCELLENT Into the Spiderverse (for the sequel, I want a live action character!!!) and some Teen Titans vs. Teen Titans Go crossover TV movie airing this month that I think also includes the Young Justice version of the characters.

I had originally thought that reference that Fury made about getting her out of mothballs with "help form some old friends" was a sly reference to the SHIELD team (who in the TV show were storing the helicarrier)...but on re-watch, it's wasn't even that. It was a reference to the people on the bridge from the last Avengers movies They couldn't even give us *that*. :(

Yeah, they had some bullshit throw-away line in an early episode of S.H.I.E.L.D where Sif from the first couple of Thor films* was working with Coulson and the rest of the Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D (in a poor follow-up/tie-in to The Dark World) and she mentioned how Thor would be so happy to learn that Coulson was alive, and he told her that Thor can never know. But no good reason was given.

*And where the frak was Sif in Ragnarok!? Writers couldn't handle 2 strong female leads in a single film, because they thought it would confuse the audience?

It might confuse the audience to re-introduce Coulson to the current MCU...but this is Marvel, and they throw a LOT of complicated backstory at the fans and even to the casual movie audience all the time, it's never stopped them before.

Well, now that the Marvel movie studio is making all the TV shows for Disney+, NOW we'll finally see some cross-overs. (They are planned, I believe.) But it would have been nice to have seen them before, but we didn't apparently just because of some behind-the-screen personal conflicts between the guy heading the movie end of the MCU and the guy handling the TV shows...so stupid.)

That S.H.E.I.L.D followup to Thor: The Dark World was lame because when the S.H.E.I.L.D team was sent to the UK to clean up the mess left after the events of Dark World,...it just involved some lame staff, and not THIS GUY, last seen running around the streets of London in the Dark World end-credits scene.)

Now THAT would have been a hell of a Marvel TV/MCU movie cross-over!!!

The Marvel TV stuff really wasn't great taken as a whole (even if a season of a show here and there was pretty good), and it was run by idiots who were also pretty much feuding with the MCU guys, so I get why it didn't happen, even if I'd have liked to see Coulson show up in the present day MCU.

Honestly, I hope the MCU, now that its all controlled by the same people, tries some of the Marvel TV stuff again, but better (Inhumans and Iron Fist could both be great, if they hadn't been given to an absolutely terrible showrunner). Honestly, even Daredevil could probably be done better by the MCU (especially if they made actual versions of Elektra and Bullseye instead of in name only versions), so I hope we see a few Marvel TV things redone by the MCU eventually.

I've always assumed Jaime Alexander wasn't in Ragnarok because she was to busy filming Blindspot.

Sif was originally going to be in Ragnarok but her actress couldn't get time off from her show, so they heavily rewrote what would've been her role into Valkyrie.

Whatever happened with that New Warriors series they were supposed to be doing with Squirrel Girl as one of the main characters?
