There are two things in life that are never guaranteed to work no matter how skilled you are, mayonnaise and a soufflé. My mother was a wizard in a kitchen yet she would still once in a while fail one of these. She's still alive but she no longer cooks. It would be too exhausting for her, she's 92. You wouldn't believe the lengths I went to to ensure that she would stop doing things that could injure her. Well, it's made difficult by the fact that we live hundreds of kilometers apart. But I've hired the right people and with little to no control on my part, things go as smoothly as I hoped they would. My mother has no idea how well she is protected against herself.

Dementia is cruel and demoralizing when it strikes those that We love. I wish you both well, and glad tidings.

    May your road be easy.

She's not demented. She's a simple person from a simpler time. She used to be poor, for at least the first forty years of her life, for all that time she worked hard. So she doesn't like people doing stuff for her. and that's why I have to protect her against her will. For example, she has no idea how much I pay the people working for her or she would be horrified.

Don't we all? Deciding to make the change is the hardest part.

I have changed my life into something IDK what but it seems a good change IMO... So this is the changing I made... I would or used to since college put my keys when coming home... Into a unique place in my apartment each time getting home... Yes.. to challenge my memory and improve my awareness skills.. this putting the keys in a different spot wasn't limited to just keys.. it was across the board with everything... Now I put these things in their exact places. I mean I have designated exact spots for everything.. really simple and easy... So life is "easier". Maybe? Mmm well Yes but quite dull and anticipated with in the given parameters of placement for everything.. .. such a change I am still not certain if the loss of my past clarity and greater awareness is a result of my slack attitude in the controlled placements or due to me ending my videogame playing obsession due to the nauseous factor becoming to much to handle... Either way it's easier by far...

If you want to improve your memory and awareness, you could try to play chess without looking at the chessboard. It's quite hard and could take months to master. The trick is not to get there immediately but to try first by playing on a chessboard where all the pieces are pawns (you need only two chessboards for that) so you have only to remember which is the Rook, which is the Queen etc... Then when you have mastered that you can try full-fledged blindfold chess. A friend of mine is an expert on that. He can play four games simultaneously without looking at the boards. That's a challenge. Of course, it's still far from what geniuses manage to do. Alekhine could play up to 26 blindfolded games simultaneously and against great players at that!!!

It must of been 10th grade after 12 hour summer working at the Asbury Park boardwalk -- when after beating the computer at all its levels in chess -- I started about doing the chess without looking just saying my moves in standard form..the other person had the board going on I would sit on the beach and just play with the sand. -=- I won a few times and also tried to move pieces that were not there .. :) but great Idea I do play chess with zillions of games this chess engine and such is quite the difficult one .. --- so I lose mostly beyond the halfway point setting for the computer opponent.. --- thanks for the suggestion @Discofan I will play a few rounds tonite.. :) === this zillions I will do a small plug to its like every possible board game that exists and then the new board games.. really fun program. it is. I would still like to see the game time vectors(multi-dimensional game play) implemented for AI on it, but IDK IF anyone is going to code that for the game interface? it is an older program for the 32 bit = system windows XP and such= woe but it is useable on the win10 with attention to settings and such. My unlock code is still good.=== they added a few more unlocks when I complained a few years ago.== I really like the way they implemented the AI for the game== Qyshinsu --- the person who made this game .. gave me a board and rules that he signed and such-- was very cool.. ,, I play against AI so much now. very interesting game.. better with real people. but yeah my favorite board game right now.=== I did like this game called byte I would play the person who made this game ,, online ,,, he was in california and I was here. we played on the checkerboard but going to play on the international 10x10 its difficulty is increased massively== In the end the guy who made the board had stopped playing me as --- I would win and it would drop his.. standing in the game.. :( === I could not go forward with this == as no body really played me anymore. :( === I played with Mark mostly in 2006-9 about on a site that implemented this game.== these are the rules from 2005 -- http://www.marksteeregames.com/Byte_rules.pdf just questioning if that is ok to post the link to the game rules == IDK I am sure it is qualified in the ,,, guides for posting here. :) == just talking on and on.. now no real direction or focus of random thoughts with what is on my mind.. keeping to topic.--

So I heard an ad on the radio this morning... apparently a travel agency is holding their "annual clearance sale".

... Do they have a bunch of old vacations sitting around in the storeroom, that they need to clear out to make room for new ones?

Maybe they have a slew of wholesale hotel reservations and some such that they have to use soon or lose them for good. So they are willing to sell them for a low price or maybe it's just an advertising trick, to make people think that they'll get a good deal.

yesterday, I read on the signboard of a local restaurant that they offer "soup" (in quotation marks!). I was soooo tempted to go in and ask what it is they cook which pretends to be soup.
I always though there was no climax to those horrible falsely used apostrophes but these false quotation marks are 4 times an apostrophe and hence 4 times worse :brickwall: Sometimes, on my walks through town, I am craving for a bottle of red ink!

It's a new month, so it's time for a new installment of my Winona Ryder Avatar Calendar for 2020. And for March, how could I go with anything else than a picture of Ms. Ryder in her role as Jo March from "Little Women".

She is a good actor with a wide range of work and yet my favorite role for her is Lydia Deets (apologies to Amanda Grayson.)

Yeah, I'm not going to go down the road of picking a favorite. It'd be too long a road.
