When Jurati kills Maddox, surely there’s some sort of CCTV monitoring of sickbay to prevent a ‘Beverly Allitt’ sort of situation. Her poor technical knowledge with the transporter suggest she might be unable to turn the recording off. If the MHA detected a dangerous situation with an incapacitated patient, surely it would be able to intervene the turning-off of vital support? Finally, when Maddox says her contribution to the work of Soong and his own was invaluable, she said it was another reason to,atone for what she had done suggesting she’s a Romulan imposter or something like that.

    Oh no....I’m becoming one of....you....:(

Uhh.. Please change the title.. BIG SPOILER..

    As for the premise.. Yes..
The emh should not have been able to be shut off if there was a patient dieing. Or the emh should have appeared to the captain saying blonde is murdering Maddox.

Unless the ship's IT infrastructure prevents such communication between the "hologram" AIs and the bridge?

The hologram EMH is probably programmed to defer to a biological doctor, which Jurati is, and as for security around the medical bay...maybe Rios has never needed such a thing, so it never occurred to him to install it. Seems like he mostly flies solo, so the issue may never have arisen before.

I'm skeptical that a ship of this size and purpose would even have a dedicated infirmary, but there it is. Serenity had one too.

That area didn't look like a dedicated medical bay.. the vitals screen was projected to some random wall.. and looked like a conference room, or rec room of some sort that could be reset to a medical bay.. though my thought is.. they can recreate Picards Great Room.. why not take a sick or injured in to the holodeck??

Suprise was.. why wasn't the EMH Already active.. I mean.. He HAD a patient.. and nobody on board is a Doctor of Medicne.. So he should have been ON treating his patient.. then maybe Blondie could have still turned him off.. but him not being on. .then turn on for Blondie's Psycologial trouble.. and then be surprised a man is dying saying.. Oh.. medical emergency..

This would hardly be the first Trek series where the writers have ignored that on any ship there should be a panopticon of cameras recording all things at all times.

I mean, I can understand why the writers do this - because if you presume there's an accurate recording for everything everywhere, it's hard to get a plot going. But it tends to lead to some ridiculous scenarios, such as the many "prison break" episodes which relied upon the guards somehow not having listening devices in every cell.

...I am pretty confident that Jurati is an expert in fooling all sorts of cybernetic systems, and packing a powerful jammer and a perception filter in the same wallet where she keeps her psych paper. And killing Maddox is something she has had time to plan for, even if she's on the verge of a breakdown from mission stress in general.

What is her agenda in eliminating Picard's key witness? The bit about Soji's whereabouts is already out, so she must be silencing the man for something else. That out of the way, is it still important for her to also kill Soji, or to lead evil folks to her? Or is she now just tagging along?

I don't think there's any monitoring of sickbay or anywhere else, as ridiculous as it is. On DISC, nobody noticed that Tyler/ Voq had killed Culbert for ages...

Well, the killer was the Chief of Security. Aboard a ship run by a man who made it his business to keep dark secrets, and who employed an exceptionally unscrupulous Chief of Security before the one who committed the murder, no doubt providing said Chief with exceptional means, too. The scene really was set for some clandestine killing there.

Not to mention that the ship is huge but has very little in the way of personnel. While there are busy spots, there are also some that seldom get any presence other than that decided upon by the skipper - who segments and separates as a key element of his machinations.

Wouldn't that be the most important thing to have on a ship, after all the engineering?

I mean, he's got holoprojectors in every corner....

Exactly, she is one of the highest ranking individuals in the Daystom Institute after all, and Maddox himself said that she is as influential as himself ,and Soong. Reprogramming a Hologram would be childs play for her.

She's a doctor and an expert in cybernetics. She's probably holding back on her level of technical skill, especially in a sick bay.

She's got some kind of Midsommar energy going on in this episode
