    Hello,

I am new to this forum, brand new. Last night, I got this wild idea about seeing a TNG clip in Picard. It's not like it hasn't been done before. Heck, Discovery put a few minutes of "The Cage" in their "If Memory Serves" episode. It was a good fit as it tied into the Talosian's story and Christopher Pike. Being that the Romulans play a key role in the story of Picard, it would be cool to show an old TNG clip in the same manner. I keep seeing the confrontation between Picard and Tomalak from "The Defector", for example. This would also show our younger viewers or people new to Star Trek who Captain Picard is. Anyways, I created a petition here:

Maybe it's a great idea. Maybe it isn't. Take a look, share it!

No thanks. I'm appreciating putting some distance between then and now.

I see absolutely no purpose for this.

Eh, we saw some stills from the old show in that news segment before Picard's interview, that is fine for me. I am indifferent to them showing TNG clips in Picard, if they work it in that's fine if not, that's fine too.

They might easily have plans to at an appropriate point. I see no reason to twist their arms to do so.

The only reason they did that in DSC was because they wanted to hammer home that DSC is a prequel to TOS and that they both exist in the ‘prime’ universe. STP needs no such evidence.

They should just add the episodes of "Best of Both Worlds' "Hugh" and "Measure of a Man" to a extra bonus disk when the blu rays come out. All it will cost is a extra 20 dollars. Once that works starting re-selling TNG episodes as "Picard prequel adventures" and cha ching.:)

While it may be effective, I don't see any need to include such callbacks in the episode. I suspect that most viewers aren't having any trouble connecting Picard to the character he played thirty years ago. Indeed, it may be more confusing, given the number of experiences Picard has had since that time. For Pike and Spock, Talos IV was much more recent.

Perhaps there are other ways of having an "homage?" I suspect that there will be some conversation between Picard and Hugh that will evoke their own emotions while referencing both I, Borg and Descent.

I put even money on an episode having a brief bit from TNG in a "Previously On..." segment. But probably not this season.

Petitions of this type almost never ever succeed and even if they do, it usually doesn't turn out the way intended and ends in disappointment.

    No would be my response.

I don't think '80s Nostalgia works the same way as '60s Nostalgia. You could get away with a fun, quirky thing like they did for the recap of "The Cage" in "If Memory Serves" on Discovery.

And if you can't have fun with it, you have to take it seriously. And TNG took itself dead-seriously. So then we have this TNG-style recap preceding a Picard episode and the two styles simply differ too much. It would simply be too jarring. And no, not from a continuity standpoint. From a stylistic standpoint. The way it's shot, the way it's written, etc.

Not that TOS and DSC don't also have jarring differences but at least in "If Memory Serves", they didn't play the recap straight. So they had a lot more leeway.

^ The Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover got a very effective dramatic moment out of
a clip from the 1990 Flash show.

I'm predicting we see flashbacks from TNG in season 2. The ones that make the most sense to me is Hugh and Seven (in this case a Voyager Flashback)

That would mean they'd have to rescan some Voyager negatives. I'm not a huge Voyager fan, but I'd like that.

It wouldn't be very much though - more like the shot of Ten Forward rescanned for "These Are the Voyages..." than the TNG-R project.

Yeah, but even a smidgen of HD Voyager is exciting. I thought the Ten Forward shot in TATV was pretty exciting too, even though it didn't lead to anything more until much later.

They have been saying since day one that just cause Jean Luc appears in Picard, it is not a TNG sequel, so I don’t see them adding TNG footage.

They would’ve done it already if they were going to. There has already been certain plot points that needed to have had prior TNG knowledge to fully understand.

Urgh, I'm not in favor of this idea. It would indeed be very jarring.

I think they did fine with Jean-Luc's slight happy smile when he sees that Enterprise-D hologram. That moment says more than ANY clip from TNG they could include.
