I was reading about “Trials and Tribble-ations” (which I haven’t seen), and I was very interested in how much effort they went into to faithfully, meticulously recreate the TOS sets, the models (U.S.S. Constitution Class, Space Station Class K), even the lenses, lighting, and film stock used. I’m sure this isn’t news to anyone, but, I just wonder if the franchise has ever gone to such lengths in any other instance.

Apart from a few Klingons with perms the episode was very good in it's reconstructions! Maybe the perms confused them in TAS and that's why they appeared here? :klingon:

Is El Camino a “love letter” to Breaking Bad or just… continuity?

As much painstaking work went into Greg Jein's ship and space station miniatures in "Trials and Tribble-ations," I feel that there were some missteps with the colors and lighting, strangely giving the exterior shots an overall look that some viewers assumed to be CGI. And the surface detailing on the Klingon cruiser was more in line with the movies than the series.

It just makes me realise how much care and attention went into recreating these things back then. Yes, I can understand modern Trek wanting to appear... well... more modern, and I like Discovery's version of the Enterprise, but you kind of have to give the old shows props for respecting the legacy. Even in TNG, if century old technology was ever seen (eg the computers on the Armagosa observatory in Star Trek 7), they'd look suitably like the old Enterprise. Subtle things that felt like the makers of the show actually cared about the lore and building this universe in a consistent way....

I mean, I don't know many who like ENT's finale, but one thing I genuinely did appreciate was that they rebuilt the Enterprise-D corridor sets, and that corner of Ten Forward, and the obs lounge, and Crew quarters, and did so accurately to what they actually had looked like back on TNG, not tempted to modernise the look or light the sets darker or whatever. There's a respect for the craft, and a respect for the lore, and a respect for the aesthetic, which show a love and care and attention that I still feel the modern Trek shows lack.

They definitely weren't perfect, though it felt as though they at least tried. A feeling I don't get from the current PTB.
