In that video ME acknowledged politics on Star Trek is fair game.

Midnight's Edge pander to fanboy hate for YouTube click money. And now Trump supporters too.

Not gonna lie, I wish I thought of it first.

Midnight's Edge is a guilty pleasure for fans who prefer older Star Trek to the new. I don't take them that seriously since every video is the same: a pronouncement of the upcoming commercial and artistic failure of the latest incarnation of Star Trek.

So they actually do baldly pander to Trump Supporters now? I'd love to hear how they square supporting Trump with supporting TNG: a series about a money-less future. Of course they won't, because they don't actually like TNG or any other Star Trek series. Yet they'll still continue to bash Picard for not being anything like TNG. Gotta get those clicks.

Other item. Expanding upon what I said earlier. @The Overlord : They don't even believe their own shit. It makes no sense to go argue directly with someone who's not even arguing in good faith. It's not your position vs. their position, it's your position vs. their made-up buillshit position. If I'm arguing with someone, I prefer to argue with someone who actually believes their own position. Otherwise, you're just shooting through their hoops where they've already rigged the game.

As loud as they are there is no harm. Ignoring them takes away their power.

I prefer TOS to most of what has come afterward, but there is no way in Hell that the ME crap is on my radar to be watched.
(I watched one vid ages ago and found it to be extremely insulting to my intelligence)

As far as I'm concerned ME and their ilk are just taking monetary advantage of uninformed Trek Fans and their rage.

Also, I watch Star Trek for the ships and gadgetry, not for any perceived moral story telling.

Trump supporter here. Love TNG and most other Trek. The two are not mutually exclusive. A future with no money was always ridiculous and is likely taken with a grain of salt by most regardless of their political leanings. Everyone is entitled to their views. It's not a good idea to pigeon hole all Conservative Trump supporters into the same box. Not everyone thinks the way you do. The Borg hive collective mind is supposed to be a bad thing, not something to aspire to.

I'm not convinced they're actually Trump Supporters any more than I'm convinced they're actually TNG Fans. I think they're just trying to feed into what's out there to generate clicks. I said I'd like to know how they'd square it because I don't they actually have. You have, and others have, but I don't think they have.

In fact, I think what they're doing might be counter-productive to their purposes. There are several people who can't stand DSC or PIC or the Kelvin Films but they're hardcore liberals. Midnight's Edge taking a political stand could drive off those liberals who hate Current Trek.

I seriously wonder how much of their political position is genuine and how much of it is just them taking the counter-position Picard seems to have, so they can tear it apart in any way possible?

Oh Midnight's Edge is troll trash. I can't stand them. I was just making the point that there are actual Trek fans who are Conservative Trump supporters and we love Trek for various reasons just like Liberal or non political fans. Trek means a lot to many people from all different walks of life. I would never defend ME. They're clearly conspiracy theorists with disingenuous motives.

No, it's not a good idea to pigeon hole any political view. I hate the political arguments on the Internet, but man the flinging around the term "right wing" like an invective is tiresome. Better to have actual discussion rather than assume all people are "fill in the blank."

I can understand making the mistake of voting for Trump once, but if you continue to support him after some of the things he’s done, I don’t know what to say that is nice.

I think it's perfectly valid for a conservative to like Star Trek. But anyone who complains about "new Trek" being political is not arguing in good faith. Trek has always been political, and 99% of the time (except for a few cases on Enterprise) has taken the "left" stance on an issue when it pipes up.

Edit: As a counterpoint, there's plenty of right-wing SF writers whose work I enjoyed over the years (Larry Niven, Vernor Vinge, Poul Anderson, even some Heinlein) in spite of it involving politics which are very, very different from my own. I enjoy it, but I recognize it's not coming from the same place that I am, and I wouldn't be outraged if new works (from those still alive) tread similar ground.

That's your prerogative based on what you believe he's done. Not everyone shares the views you hold. Is he perfect? Hell no. Doesn't mean he hasn't lived up to the majority of his campaign promises. I understand the reason politics and Trump are part of this discussion is because of Patrick's comments but as much as I admire Patrick Stewart and Picard I don't share his political beliefs and I kind of resent his finger wagging about what I should be embarrassed about. He's entitled to his views and so is everyone else. It's regrettable you can't find common ground with those who don't share your beliefs but that's how it is these days I guess.

Not what I believe he’s done. What I’ve watched him do. Including making a mockery of the emoluments laws and locking kids in cages. Watching his Justice Department argue that tooth brushes and blankets aren’t required to take care of immigrants in our custody.

Exactly so. I enjoy different political views in works of fiction and see no reason for every work to reflect my views.

there's so much handwringing on the internet about this and this is a network TV show... the political allegories are probably going to be so tame, the majority of people being offended will be those looking to be offended.

i mean, unless there's some kind of space trump screwing up the federation.

BS - I'm a real old, old school TOS fan and I find Midnight Edge's crap just that - utter crap from someone who either never really watched Star Trek, or if he did, didn't really pay attention to ANYTHING in it.

As others have said - He's just in it for click-bait cash (what little he probably gets.)

I think this is true as well yet people haven't forgotten what a joke Lorca's turn to evil looked like. Plus Burnham has made a thousand "deep" speeches that aren't all that deep. Some of "Discovery's " bad writing is no doubt impacting people perception in the quality of how the issues are explored. Also this idea that Stewart only returned to talk about politics makes you think of something like "Murphy Brown" where they came back for the same reason and maybe when you do that, the art gets lost in the idea of trying to say something important.

Reading that article, it unfortunately seems that Picard will be a paper thin, one sided allegory to today's political situation. Hopefully there is an actually intriguing story that is coherent and in universe believable outside of the Brexit Trump BS.
