The problem wasn't the message that global warming is a threat to life on the planet and can make Earth into Venus 2.0, the problem is how it was worked into the episode which was horrible. The episode felt like several previous ones where a spa / vacation world had gross monsters, they just threw in that it's Earth because we didn't do anything to stop it. It could have been worked in better. Last year they did the Rosa Parks episode where you know racism is bad was the message was beaten in your head. It was at least enjoyable to me.

It's like people who think all the episodes suck because the Doctor is now played by a female actress and bitch about 'woke' being what's wrecking the show. Whittaker I think is great and just doing the best she can with the garbage they are giving her. Spyfall was a lot of fun, the cast really worked well in that, but they can't do their job if the writing is shit. I even enjoyed most of last season that most people didn't seem but I think I missed an episode o two.

I also think what everyone always forgets is Doctor Who writing is weak at best 80% of the time. This isn't Oscar level writing, it's a silly family show. I was rewatching Eccleston and Tennant years and a lot of them are truly awful. Capaldi got screwed a lot too as he was a great Doctor, they are all great in their own ways, but his final season was by far the best to me. I just hope Whittaker doesn't have to wait so long to get a good season.

    ^ This !

RTD was a truly horrible writer producing many of the worst episodes, but was a good showrunner. Moffat was transcendentally magnificent with Girl In The Fireplace, Blink, Empty Child and Doctor Dances - I rather naively hoped every episode would be that good when he became show runner. They weren't.

I love the show. Much of it is shit. C'est la vie...

Moffat was pretty much a one-trick pony, but he was REALLY GOOD at that one trick.

There is a YouTube channel called 'Honest Trailers' which was the first mainstream thing I've seen that really calls out just how bad a lot of Doctor Who is. They did a classic and a modern video about 2 years ago. My favorite line was like 'Taking barely enough story for one episode and stretching it for 6.' The bad is bad, but the good is GOOOD.

And I'm glad you don't like RTD writing either. I remember watching the show years ago and everyone seemed to think he was god and that the show couldn't continue without him. He wrote all the Rose storylines, right there should have gotten him hated by the fans.

Russell was better at writing character than he was sci-fi.

I still say his best writing on the show was -

The Doctor: You think it’ll last forever. People and cars and concrete. But it won’t. One day it’s all gone. Even the sky. My planet’s gone. It’s dead. It burned like the Earth. It’s just rocks and dust. Before its time.

    Rose: What happened?

The Doctor: There was a war and we lost.

Rose: A war with who? What about your people?

The Doctor: I’m a Time Lord. I’m the last of the Time Lords. They’re all gone. I’m the only survivor. I’m left traveling on my own because there’s no one else.

    Rose: There’s me.

The Doctor: You’ve seen how dangerous it is. Do you want to go home?

Rose: I don’t know. I want… Can you smell chips?

    The Doctor: Yeah.

    Rose: I want chips.

    The Doctor: Me too.

Rose: Right then, before you get me back in that box chips it is, and you can pay.

    The Doctor: No money.

Rose: What sort of date are you? Come on then, tightwad. Chips are on me. We’ve only got five billion years ’til the shops close...

Wow. That was a bit of a step down after I really enjoying the opening two-parter.

The talk about climate change was very heavy-handed, though I did find the enemies interesting. I liked their design, and they were effective enough in the mayhem.

I enjoyed the dialogue between Ryan and Yas about their dead relatives, even if it was lost in the rest of the episode somewhere.

Just bigots, sexists and racists do (along with a few idiots tricked by the first three), not most people though. Stop claiming things that aren’t true.

The real thing that needs to be done is demand that our leaders start working on it and don’t let them rest to they do. Australia is literally on fire while their PM is acting like there isn’t a bigger issue. It’s time shit like that ends.

The terms SJW and Woke aren't just convenient shorthand. They're attack terms weaponised by the alt-right, sexists, racits, bigots and worse.

It's perfectly possible to say what you mean without using them, and people do. There's a variety of views about the environmental message in this show that if not in complete lockstep with yours, certainly aren't that far away. The difference is, the posters haven't been conditioned to shout SJW, Woke, Feminism, Snowflake etc.

    You give yourself away...

No, the words used in derogatory ways comes from far right sources, most of whom are now white nationalists, MRAs and other groups of horrific people. It’s literally attacking people who speak out for minorities and the actual minorities and act towards making things better for everyone who isn’t a white man. So by using those phrases you’re mocking people for wanting to make the world better for people who aren’t treated equally. Maybe consider that before using it, you either don’t understand what you’re talking about or if you do, no one wants to hear it.

Bigots, sexists and racists are maybe two thirds of the British public?

    More?

You lose a few by being too progressive, that's fine.

You lose them all, and your show is cancelled.

Besides, bigots, sexists and racists probably don't identify as bigots, sexists and racists, so they don't even know that they are the problem.

Thankfully less, and they're older. Better still they're not being replenished as the next generation ages, so they'll eventually disappear.

Sadly for me I'm old enough that I may not live to see it.

I was the only one who thought that was idiotic to bring a kid and an old lady to a rescue mission..?

They don’t, they think everyone thinks like them and act like they speak for the majority. They don’t and they need to be constantly reminded of that or else they assume you silently agree.

    What about ATMOS?

Some sort of fertility choking hazzard mist that covered the planet for a few hours?

What did that do to the insects and small animals?

If their birthrates briefly tripled or more, that could have done horrible things to their prey and soon.

Probably better than leaving them behind and fending for themselves! Also, you probably couldn't get the old lady to stay behind when they're searching for Bennie. And the dad wasn't going to be separated from the son.

Although, the entire rescue mission wasn't very well thought out. The Doctor seemed surprised that they were driving into the lair of the apex predator? Um, yeah! Not really the best plan.
