Would Enterprise have been better with Shran and a Tellarite added?

So just watched Babel One (again).

I had thought this for a while, but Shran would have been an awesome addition to the crew... maybe some reason to make him first officer would have helped (or kill off Reed).

And for the Tellarite...maybe Assistant Chief Engineer...so recurring but not starring

The Temporal Cold War was such a waste! (And the Romulan War that wasn't...)

I liked shran when he was on Enterprise I didn't care for the Tellerite ambassasdor when they had him in the 3 part Andorian story arc from season 4.
He killed Talas and I found him to be a very unlikeable character.

I'd have loved to see Shran as a regular crew member. His presence would have added some tension to the crew, no doubt - but they'd have become friends eventually, and I would have liked to see that journey. Besides, it would also have given us a chance to learn a lot more about the Andorians, which would have been really nice. (Not saying that ENT didn't do anything in that department but I for one would have liked to learn a LOT more.)

No, I think Shran was perfect as an ally/spoil to Archer. A real partnership.

Shran was supposed to join the crew in the fifth season, although in what capacity I'm not sure. His adjusting to a human ship could have made for some fun stories.

No, the addition of an Andorian and a Tellarite would not have made Enterprise better.

If Enterprise ran to more than four seasons, then introducing more of the Federation founder species on board could have been great, with lots of storytelling possibilities. The only downside I can see is that it would have even further downgraded character's like Mayweather and Sato, both of which had unrealized potential.

I know I'm in the minority (or maybe even be all alone), but I actually thought that ENT should have been different from all the other Trek shows by having an all-Human crew. There would still be plenty of aliens, but they would all be encounters during the course of the ship's adventures, with many of them holding up a mirror to Humanity to see both its good and bad. Perhaps the series could have ended with the first non-Human joining Starfleet.

Yeah, I'm sure that was the problem. The lack of weirdos in rubber masks. That's what was driving normal people away.

Actually I think "Enterprise" is pretty good. The biggest improvement I can think of would be to give it a "full" run of seven seasons (as was usual in those days).

Adding Shran as a crew member, I think, would not have been a good move. He was great as a rival/ally to Archer. I can't imagine a person like Shran serving in a hierarchy under Archer.

The Andorian High Command might assign Shran on detachment to Enterprise as some sort of liaison, or an officer exchange program, but really, as punishment for losing the Kumari. So he would totally hate not being in charge, and the humiliation of this "demotion" would be intentional by the High Command. It would be awkward with Archer, who is probably under orders too. So they're stuck like this, neither one liking the situation but making the best of it. So there would be conflict and tension, which is what good drama is made of. And maybe over time they figure out some workable system, their friendship is strengthened because of the adversity. And then maybe there's some crisis and both of them shine, Archer talks up Shran to the High Command, and as a diplomatic gesture to the humans, they give Shran another ship.

That's just off the top of my head. I think there's a way, probably many different scenarios in fact, for it to be a net positive, enabling the characters and the human/Andorian alliance to grow amid some rocky times.

    And MORE JEFF COMBS.

I also agree about giving ENT 7 seasons (with Manny Coto as showrunner, please), when we all know those last 3 seasons are when a show is comfy and the writing staff is humming and they can start experimenting and goofing around with comedy and pushing the envelope and some of the coolest episodes happen. WE WERE ROBBED.:mad::mad::weep:

I think if they had been green lit for a 5th season Shran would have been a more regular cast member, too bad I liked him.

I like this idea. The most interesting potential story in Enterprise was showing the formation of the Federation, and adding Shran and a Tellarite along with T'Pol would have offered an interesting microcosm of that drama. And it would have been nice if some Trek series managed the task of giving us a great Tellarite character.

And I liked Phlox, but there was always something odd about how prominent the Denobulans were during Enterprise, to never be seen again in any of the series set later.
