Be warned, Playmobil: The Movie is not the movie that the trailer is selling. And, if that weren't bad enough, it really does suck out loud. I had the theater to myself, and employees kept popping in, I assume to see if I had walked out yet or not. And there is a mid credit bonus scene to set up a sequel that should never get made, ever. Followed that with National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 30th Anniversary screening. Of course, I saw that one in theaters with my dad thirty years ago, so it doesn't get added to the list. The movie is still funny. There was a family of three sitting in front of me, and before the movie, the woman turned & warned me that they love the movie, have watched so much over the years that I may hear them quoting the film as it played. I told her I'd rather just hear the movie. Thankfully, they realized they were in a public theater, not their private living room. Even though both movies had five dollar ticket prices, I used my AMC Stubs membership to see 'em. Going out to Lufkin for Jumanji: The Next Level 3D tonight. - edit - Used a voucher to get into the last showing for Honey Boy at AMC Lufkin this afternoon. Not a big fan of Shia LeBeouf, but damn, this was pretty good. Semi autobiography of a working child actor being raised by his abusive father. LeBeouf wrote the movie & plays the father. Followed that by using my third AMC Stubs ticket for the week to see Jumanji: The Next Level 3D. The theater had a screwup with the 3D at the beginning of the movie, but managed to get it fixed before any of the real action started. The final act was kind of dark with the glasses on, so I may go see it again. I enjoyed the movie itself, especially Jack Black. There is a mid credit bonus to set up another sequel, should one be made. There's nothing at the end of the credits except animal noises.

First up, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, which is based on a true story of a Mr. Rogers. And if even half of it is really true, its just further proof that man was too good for this world. Tom Hanks is awesome, as always. It really was a sweet movie, and I liked the use of models for the cities & transitions, and the frame size changing based on if it was televised or not. Second movie of the day was Dark Waters, the story of how an Ohio lawyer sued DuPont over toxic chemical dumps and the cancers & deaths the company caused in West Virginia. More than anything, the way its presented reminded me of Greg Kinnear in Flash of Genius that came out about ten years ago. After I watched the movie about the guy who invented the intermittent setting for windshield wipers, nothing was exaggerated for dramatic effect. This movie is like that, and even does the math for you as the years pass in the story, just in case you can't keep up. The third & worst movie of the day, Black Christmas (2019), a horror film about mostly white male privilege, hashtag me too, and that Greek culture kinda sucks. And the trailer has quite a bit that wasn't in the movie while still giving too much away. Highlight of being in Theater 9 for this was the teaser for The Quiet Place Chapter II. I'm so in for that movie already, and it doesn't come out 'til March. - edit - Went out to the Lufkin AMC this afternoon, my only day off this week, to use up my three Stubs tickets. First up was the only "new to me" movie, Cats. Without being familiar with the stage play, I can't say how the movie compares to the Broadway version, but the film is a bit of a mess. The choreography was well done, but it was difficult to understand some of the song lyrics, especially big chorus numbers. The catification of the cast was kind of creepy. The scale between cat characters & the human world threw me off from time to time. And the mice & cockroaches in Rebel Wilson's big number grossed me out for reasons I cannot put a finger on. Followed that with my second viewing of Knives Out. Its still pretty awesome, even knowing how things play out. And then I went to see Jumanji: The Next Level in 2D. Gotta say I think that's the better way to watch the movie, since the big finale is so dark with those 3D glasses on, in 2D it was a lot easier to follow the action / fights. And Jack Black still cracked me up.
