From reading the posts, he seemed like a down-to-Earth guy.
First DC Fontana, now him. This is a loss to the Trek community.

First post here in years. Odo is one of my favorite tv characters of all time, thanks to the wonderful performance of Rene. Heartbreaking to read this today. :(

Never gave a performance that was less than excellent.

I am just going through a Star Trek rewatch and was impressed by his directing ability in The Quickening, even more so since he was not as comfortable in the director's chair as he was in front of the camera.

I remember hearing his unmistakable voice in Soul Reaver II and made the game much more enjoyable.

I loved his work on Boston Legal, especially the early seasons where he remained ever the straight man in an office of eccentrics.

My whole family laughed when the chef from Little Mermaid was on screen.

Odo. Thank you Rene for Odo.

    RIP

HIs performance as Odo was without a doubt one of the best things about my favorite Star Trek show. He will be deeply missed. :(

I've had a look at his twitter, and it looks like he was saying what he needed to say in his final days. The last few days/weeks he posted various quotes about life, the universe, and everything.

My absolute favorite was on November 26th, a quote that resonates not just on life but has a nice double meaning with his time as Odo.

"And I was some of the mud that got to sit up and look around. Lucky me, lucky mud." -- Kurt Vonnegut.

Loved him as Douglas Pabst in Far Beyond the Stars. There he was not a villain.. just someone who was doing what was instructed of him . he found nuance in this character that still makes me think

    AFAIK, Phillips is OK.

I just meant that they're together onscreen. :)

I heard about his passing yesterday. It makes me very sad. He was one of a handful of actors that gave a great performance in everything I saw him in. I got to meet him a couple times at STLV, and he was such a nice guy. I got to tell him how much I enjoyed Deep Space Nine. Yes I have a couple of his autographs, but what I treasure the most is that he did some drawings as a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders. One was Odo is his bucket, and I have another he did of Odo as he was shapeshifting. He drew them both right in front of me, so I got to watch him draw them, and I got to pick the color of the paper. He is one of my favorite actors I've ever met. RIP Mr. Auberjonois, I will miss you very much.

    RIP Rene Auberjonois. :(

Damn, that one hurt when I read the news last night.

Rene was great in everything he was in and he seems one of those actors who nobody had a bad word about. Having done a rewatch of Deep Space Nine this year, it reminded me how great he was as Odo and how important he was in that show. I always looked forward to whenever he was on the screen.

Reading more about him on Wikipedia, he has a fascinating career and life.

My condolences to his family and friends.

It wasn't just him as Odo for me. I remember him as the French chef in "The Little Mermaid," and a few other voice roles, too.

Sad news indeed. He fit the role of Odo perfectly. Curmudgeonly but with his heart in the right place.

From one of his earliest lines in "Emissary" when he said of Sisko "At first I didn't think I was going to like him" to Quark. A great character

Very sad news. A fine actor and one of the franchise’s most likable characters.
