You would hope that humanity would have outgrown that kind of thing.

I'd like to have Kirk have to stop Captain Styles from stealing the "The Great Experiment" to sell to some enemy

"Styles.. you do this you'll never hold a swagger stick again."

And they beam the alien and predator both out of the starship into the vacuum of space. Then they bombard them into oblivion with quantum torpedoes. the end. 5 minute movie.

    Will Decker?

Starfleet reeks of Terran privilege, but based on species instead of gendar and race.

What Starfleet reeks of is Human involvement rather than privilege.

Admittedly this is down to the writers and producers.I’ve always been disappointed at the number of times guest star Starfleeters on TNG are invariably human as are any background crewmen.
DS9 was able to do large scale crowd scenes with multiple alien races present so why not TNG?

It's not uncommon for admirals to pull strings to get favored officers various assignments--it's probably how Kirk and Picard got their Enterprises. It is uncommon, though, to be related to such admirals and presumably the younger Harriman resented his father's influence on his career as it likely overshadowed his own accomplishments. In the end, Harriman would distinguish himself while captain of the Enterprise in spite of his father.

    Still I dunno.
Would that sort of thing run in the modern military?

Look let’s not derail this thread.

Ships arntt assigned by computer.. Have to demenstrat that they can hack it. But one can be given a chance that might not naturally occur. I doubt the other admirals would tolerate a shitty captain even if it was a son or daughter.

I can’t stop thinking about the possibilities for a fourth Kelvin movie outing!

:P I keep imagining opening action sweeps of the Enterprise 1701-A firing ‘everything’s she’s got!’ to the rousing Michael Giacchino Trek theme!

    Huzzah!

I'm not going to try to chase it down right now, but I believe Tarantino did say something to the effect that his take on Star Trek would likely be R-rated.

The article linked above by @Khan 2.0 talks about a current trend in Hollywood toward making more R-rated movies. I hadn't been aware of such a trend, but I don't pay close attention, either, so it could be the case.

It's also true, however, that the site wegotthiscovered dot com tends to lean pretty heavily toward the clickbait-y end of the spectrum, so anything one finds written there may be read with that in mind. This piece has enough "according to our sources" and "at this stage, though" and "isn't set in stone" built in to give them plenty of wiggle room later when the "R-rated Trek" thing turns out to have been nothing more than gratuitous eyeball-grabbing speculation.

That's what I'm hoping for now.. even if QT doesn't direct I want to see what he's cooked up with the Revenant dude for the next Kirk film . The Legion/LITS guy can do his own thing which should be interesting too

Uhm no. I don't know what the legion guy wants to do, but it makes no sense for me that Tarantino would be the one making a sequel when he admits he doesn't get or care about the basic stuff in the source material (= canon) of kelvin trek and what makes it....kelvin trek. ^ That's as illogical as asking a football player to play a tennis game. It would make more sense for Tarantino, if anything, to make his own spin off not really linked to either trek.
