memory-alpha certainly considers the TAS changes and additions part of a refit, which was reasonable until disco-prise also become a refit, or pre-fit or some shit.

With the TAS version, you can squint your eyes and write off the second bridge turbolift as part of the new bridge module. A bit harder to reconcile the Discovery changes in universe.

I've speculated the Star Trek Beyond version of the Enterprise was redesigned in forced perspective to look longer from the front and back, and the ship was filmed in such a way to minimize how weird it looked from the sides and top (most, if not all, views of the entire ship from those angles are either from an extreme distance, or are obscured and seen through Yorktown's glass tunnels and canals).

according to the magazine, she was redesigned without concept art, they just took the CG model and distorted it until they got a look they liked. if they had gone the concept art route, she probably wouldn't have ended up looking quite so weird. but i actually really like the weirdness. the enterprise is a weird ship in any form when you get down to it.

Well I received the Cloaked Defiant today and... the little tiny magazine was all crunched up inside the box... and then the nose fell off! At $40 I will be contacting Eaglemoss. :(

Would Love an X Plane set! Venture star, Shuttle.. Be nice.

They shrank the neck and pylons to appear weaker than the ITD one... which was stupid, and looks like crap.

Heck, if they can do Friendship One, they could do Voyager and Pioneer and Cassini...

I’m gonna have to buy a house.

    Goddammit would I love that!!
But please in the standard size, not XXL. I don't buy those. The small but detailed enough size really is the best part of the collection.

Also, do the NSEA Protector from Galaxy Quest. Please.

I appreciate the thoughts, but I'm not skilled enough nor have the computer tools to tackle it. Beside, I'm still wrestling with the scale of the Enterprise (947 v. 1080 or more); clearly, the TAS-E is bigger than 947. More room is needed for the bridge and its second turbolift, and especially the huge shuttlebay as seen in Mudd's Passion.

I think Shaw did a neat job putting the various TAS Engine Rooms into his model. Also, I'm not sold on some other goofy areas like the Dilithium Crystal Chamber from The Terratin Incident. :)

Visited Forbidden Planet in Manchester, UK for the first time in over a year. There’re no Eaglemoss ships or mags. Was hoping to get the SS Lakul.

I decided to add some paper details to one of my models again:

The dark rim around the impulse engines is one of several details that's missing on Lombardi's Enterprise E model and consequently on the Eaglemoss version.

The Akira/Thunderchild arrived yesterday. Beautiful model. They have definitely learned the hard lesson about trying to line up window decals with recessed surface details and removed the physical recesses entirely. The actual alignment of the windows, however, seems super-wonky to me, as if the decks to which they are supposed to be aligned are actually rolling hills. Probably due to the odd shape of the twin catamaran hulls. They just couldn't figure out how to make the texture mapping line up with real decks. Which is fine - the original probably had that problem too. Most of these models were never intended for up-close scurtiny.
