Did you love their new super horrible layout? Haven't used Steam in a week and open it to find it's updated and mutated into horrible laggy memory hungry clone of Origin. Would like to know if you like the new look.
Just fired up this morning and Steam happily burned almost all of my bandwidth downloading a couple of updates (for hours). Just love it, really...I do! STOP LAUGHING!!!
I don't find it to be that bad. Different, yes. But it's just a matter of getting used to it. And in effect, it's not all that different from GOG Galaxy 2.0 now either.
I don't like it. The stupid "box art" interface is hoggy and redundant. We've got the list of games on the left, why do we need the stupid hoggy picture interface as well. Kind of happy they removed the "news" section from the game launch pages as it very rarely served any purpose and was completely useless on really old and removed games. Not so happy they replaced it with "activity" and "community content" that take up massive real estate on the game launch pages with actual game info relegated to a small column on the right side. The "activity" section, like the new picture interface, is redundant because there's already a separate "activity" section. Why do we need it twice? The "community content" seems to be mostly random crap spammed out. Lucky you can set that section not to auto load. Still it should be a link to go to as it was before and not something forced on you front and center that you've got to fumble with settings to disable. I'm really PO'd they've gotten rid of the "list view" which I used a lot to see how much drive space games were taking up.
Well, when I said I couldn't see much difference, that was after one update yesterday. I've just had another and yeah, don't like it. @captain crow mentioned the news going, but having that in one window didn't bother me. (It was mostly harmless). I am probably going to knock the autoload of community content off as I rarely went to that section anyway and having it load up anytime you click on a game is just a pain.
It seems like an update for update's sake.. no big deal but i'm also not a poweruser with tons of interconnected people whom i game for hours with every day so i'm not too bothered and who, with a halfway modern PC, is bothered that it uses a bit more memory? Is that actually something that people notice in day to day PC usage?
I use Steam now and then. I have a 9 year old Gateway laptop with just 8GB RAM. Steam runs fine even with all latest updates. But yes, there's more clutter now. Hopefully they clean it up in the next update.
I do use it, but haven't looked at in a week or two. Been meaning to update it sometime soon, with the new machine. Probably will do so over the weekend, when I'll have do more installs.
