If they ever attempt to cover that era, I hope they do it with a new show.

Keep DSC from doing any more damage to the 23d century.

From my point-of-view, Discovery didn't do any damage to the TOS 23rd century, as I see them as separate timelines.

Yeah, I’d prefer to see a regular ship of that era, rather than follow a timelost crew on the Discovery.

I think Discovery will last 4 seasons. I don't think it is popular enough to keep around when salaries start to go up and actors are bored and want to look at other projects like movies or a chance to be a series lead of their own show. Jason

With zero idea how the contracts at CBS work but knowing why Netflix shows tend to end with the third season, I won't be too surprised if Disco's third season is the last. They've been saying S31 follows Disco S3 for ages. It could well be a replacement not a supplement.

I hope not, but you never know.

Even when Disco is safely away in the 32nd century, Short Treks, Section 31 and the rest will keep doing what you perceive as "damage" to Trek.

Perhaps it's time for an "it's only a TV show" type comment?

I don't honestly believe that at this point CBS is solely relying on Netflix as a revenue source for DISCOVERY's next few seasons.
With Amazon out bidding everyone else for PICARD, CBS knows that there is a demand for new Trek beyond it being on Their All Access and Netflix.
Even if CBS has to pick up the tab, there's more than enough interest from other markets to reap large future benefits, especially since we have now seen that DISCOVERY is already being offered and bought by the syndication markets overseas.

To be fair he didn't say more damage to Trek but damage to the 23rd century in Trek.

A 'it's only a tv show' type comment would still be appropriate.

Hmm did not think about Short Treks. S31 could be worse.

"Damage" is a relative term. Though, I'm not sure what "damage" has been done thus far.

Again, Damage is relative. I would say Worf singing and Geordi "playing" the lute to be worse damage.

I'm thinking the whole 'Sherwood Forrest' TNG episode.
    Even with 'Q' involved.

Or how about Voyagers whole 'Warp 10 - Mating Amphibians' thing.

Ooooh, then we can go waaay back and bring in "Spock's Brain".

    What's wrong with someone singing?

And you do realize her sobriquetical prelation is a metaphor, right?

It was a joke, there's actually nothing wrong with her singing itself. But I'm still not entirely enthused about her using her career power to put Spock through something he probably wouldn't tolerate otherwise. If the genders had been reversed and Pike or Kirk had forced a yeoman to endure his singing, we might be getting more negative reactions on this short.

Notably an alien impersonating Picard and leading a song on Ten Forward was portrayed in a negative light.

It wasn't portrayed as negative, it was portrayed as something Picard would never do.
It was portrayed as odd behaviour for Picard.
