Yeah, I'm thinking there is a lot more behind Starfleet refusing to help than just Picard being retired. My guesses based on what we've seen is they simply don't believe him, or since it possibly involves the Romulans, there's some sort of politics in play that Picard's mission would somehow jeopardize.

I wonder if the Romulan ship is actually La Sirena...

In a realistic scenario, people actually in power can feel threatened by somebody who wields that sort of personal power.

It doesn't really appear to be in the last two trailers.
Especially since the newest trailer appears to show Captain Rios firing on the Romulan BOP.

From what we can tell, this appears to be the La Sierna ...

It also has some similarities to Baran's starship in the two "Gambit" (TNG) episodes.

You have to wonder if this will get Picard some help from a few Federation or Starfleet folks when the time comes that he really needs it.

I think it’s time for the more important questions, like will it be stardate 76xxx.x, or 2399.xxx, or will they just make up some new random system?

Well Discovery doesn't use the Kelvin Stardates, so I doubt this will.

    It will be Stardate 8.

And everyone will fret about how that fits in to Trek continuity for years.

I actually got mixed up for a second and forgot that it was the Kelvin movies that used the Gregorian calendar as stardates and not Discovery, oops!

I suspect though with Kirsten Beyer onboard that stardates will be as you’d expect 30 years after TNG, that’s assuming they are even used. 2399 is used a lot in promotional material, and you can almost count on one hand the amount of times the actual Earth year was mentioned in TNG-DS9-VOY.

Well, TNG era stardate system is actually perfectly functional, so there really is no reason to use anything else. It is only the TOS era stardates which are a mess.

I think It'll be 76xxx.x. I'm looking forward to stardates that make sense again.

That being said, I'll be surprised if we hear them used too often. Picard might keep a journal and that would the "Captain's Log". But would he personally still use stardates since he's not in Starfleet anymore or would he just use regular Gregorian dates as his preference?

Whatever the dating system, it appears the show is happening 20 years after Nemesis, which means Picard is nearly 95 years old, having served as a Starfleet captain from 2333, to at least 2379, some 46 years, possibly longer, depending on how long he served after Nemesis.

Riker, on the other hand, would be near 65, having served as a captain from 2379, to some time before 2399, as he looks to be retired in the trailer, a good 10 years younger than Picard was in Nemesis. That's potentially less than 20 years. He possibly spent almost that much time as a commander & 1st officer, since he must have obtained that rank some time between 2361 & 2364, begging the question, did he ever take promotion to admiral? which would've meant a shorter stint as captain than even 20 years. Man, that dude really didn't want to captain a ship much lol

*Maybe someone else has thought of this:

I'm now thinking that the reason why Data looks "off" is that it seems to be appearing in the dreams of Picard, and in dreams, our subconscious never gets everything exactly right.

Oh, it's been suggested. It just hasn't be accepted as discussing lower quality VFX is more fun.

It has been established that Picard left Starfleet in 2384 or 85 (can't locate the info, but if was displayed at the San Diego Comic Con).

    Yeah pretty sure it’s:

    2379 - Nemesis
2381 - Picard promoted to Admiral and leaves the Enterprise-E
2384 - The rescue operation occurs
2386 - Picard retires from Starfleet (although I noticed certain plaques at STLV mentioned it being 2385)
2387 - Romulus destroyed (unless this has been retconned)
2399 - Star Trek: Picard begins

Aren't Stardates just a Starfleet thing? If they are then we probably won't see them used much here since Picard the La Sirena crew will be civilians.
