The Kelvin timeline movies have a whole bunch of flaws, but for some reason I still enjoy the heck out of them. And as much as I'd love new Kelvin timeline stories with those versions of Kirk, Spock, etc., I've really always thought it would be fun explore the Kelvin timeline through the eyes of a different ship, captain, crew, all of that stuff, but do it as a TV show. Of course, I knew it probably would never happen due to the rights being split between Paramount and CBS, with CBS holding the TV rights.

But now with Viacom and CBS merging, I say lets do it!

IDW's Star Trek: Ongoing and Star Trek: Boldly Go series were kind of hit-and-miss, but even in the bad times it was still really intriguing to me to see how the Kelvin timeline evolved by mixing new ideas with concepts from the Prime timeline. And personally, I feel like that's what "TV Star Trek" needs right now - the freedom to mix new ideas and classic ones. To create something new, but yet familiar.

I'm NOT picking on Discovery or Picard; I really enjoyed Discovery season 2, and I poop my pants at least seven times a day in excitement over the upcoming Picard show. But regardless how further into the future you go, be it 20 years or 930 years, the Canon Police will be there with their batons waiting to inflict pain upon those whom make even the slightest diversions from established canon.

The beauty of the Kelvin timeline, despite its flaws, was the [mostly] clean slate it had. The universe was their oyster! They could do [for the most part] whatever they wanted to do! Now, take that [mostly] clean slate, throw in new & fresh characters, and imagine what you can do!

I'm not saying they should do the Kelvin timeline TV spinoff INSTEAD of Disco, Picard, Section 31, Lower Decks, etc. I'm saying do the Kelvin timeline TV spinoff IN ADDITION to those shows. CBS All Access has said they want at least eleventy billion new Star Trek shows to keep the Trekkies/Trekkers/Trekksters subscribed. With Viacom and CBS merging and unifying the Star Trek brand, and one of the architects of the Kelvin timeline (Alex Kurtzman) being the leader of the Star Trek Global Group (or whatever fancy corporate name it's called), suddenly this is within the realm of possibility!

Some will argue that having two different timelines (Prime and Kelvin) coexisting at the same time on CBS All Access would be confusing. To that, I say look at all these other genre franchises with multiple versions of the same character(s) and settings existing at the same time. Heck, in CW's Arrowverse, one of the shows (Supergirl) literally takes place in an alternate universe. And like those shows, you can also do a big crossover event - like... have the crew of my hypothetical Kelvin timeline spinoff TV show meet up with Anson Mount's Pike and Enterprise crew to thwart the Into Darkness Klingon/Disco Klingon alliance! (Yes, I know, that would violate canon! :)) I just saying I think viewers are smarter than they're given credit for. I don't have any focus group data to prove it, but it's just a hunch.

Anyway, that's it. Apologies in advance for this long post - I just needed to get this idea out there so I can move on with my life. May the Schwartz be with you.

I'd be all for a John Cho-starring Excelsior series or some kind of spin-off set in the Kelvin universe. Karl Urban as McCoy: Frontier Doctor? And having the two continuities running concurrently would encourage them to make more huge lasting changes to the Kelvinverse.

But how are they going to resolve the Kelvinverse and explain how the Primeverse shows still exists when Nero erased it!!!????;)

I'd still be totally on board for captain John Cho. Get Sofia Boutella back, too, please.

Not a HUGE fan of the Kelvin timeline, but I sorta kinda want this... if it's done right.

It won't matter because they'll just use the same stories with different skins.

Why not set it in the prime timeline ?

Urban is the only member of the Kelvin cast that nails being the exact same character. I'd completely buy into him being a younger DeForest Kelley.

I've no desire to revisit the Kelvinverse but I'd love that.

any reason why the kelvin timeline is a setting you don’t want to see explored more?

i think it’s far more fertile ground to tell stories than the prime universe, even if we jump forward to the 24th or 32nd century. it’s a clean slate, no continuity headaches, the creators can keep what they want, throw away the stuff that’s bogged down in canon, and introduce new elements to really make it something we haven’t seen before. three films have only scratched the surface, but they’re a good place to start.

If the litany of Star Wars animated spin offs tells me anything, it's that it is possible to create believably canonical adventures featuring the same characters, without needing the original actors. You could, therefore, actually do the adventures of the Kelvin timeline Enterprise-A, with soundalikes for the original actors, and not miss a beat.

Not liking the majority of the cast*, the design aesthetic and liking the movies steadily less as they continued.

It's done, it served a purpose but no more please.

Yes, but the Star Wars stuff is not very good.

I view the forthcoming animated Trek with less than enthusiasm.

Edit - '*' as TOS crew. Urban is outstanding, Quinto good, Saldana OK, Pine just about bearable, Cho and Yelchin miscast and Pegg (who I do often like) absolutely wrong.

this could work but i think only Quinto and Urban may come back. Saldaana and Pine are too expensive now

Why do all these fan proposals ask for something manageable and known (perhaps modified), as opposed to something fans can’t describe because they want to be genuinely surprised?

I want a 6 to 8 Captain Uhura show. Or a Enterprise C show staring Captain Spock and a young Picard. Jason

Hence a good reason to go for animation. :) You don't need the original actors for that, you can still tell stories featuring 'those' versions of the characters, but sound alikes for any actors unwilling (or too expensive) to return.

At last, the difference between Trekkies, Trekkers and Treksters revealed by a simple litmus test: how many times a day you poop in excitement for the new Picard series = which one you are on the Trek fan scale. :D

But they couldn’t even keep the IDW comic going, yet you think animation would have a chance? Not to mention that it would come across as settling for the doable long after the heyday of 2009+, as opposed to breaking new ground.

With all these fan ideas around, do you want the franchise to devolve into a myriad riffs between the cracks, or would you rather see them surprise you with a new direction? I just don’t understand this constant need to look back, to continue and expand upon. It’s not like the property owners have billions to spend on Star Trek, so why not use the budget for next concept and the one after that, never looking to fan proposals for inspiration?

I'd love a Kelvin timeline Next Generation series. It could even include DS9 and and Voyager characters.
