This topic needs a thread of its own. I check this thread for actual series 12 news and spoilers. Not a discussion of console rooms. Thanks!
I'd love to see a series 12 announcement that said the Rani was back! Or hints on it kinda like an RTD/Moffat era style twist with her possibly coming back towards the end of series 12 as a surprise..but then again this is Chibnall, too PC, predictable and boring.
Actual news? Um... that's what the thread's for, so... Well we now know Stephen Fry's appearance will be in episode one, or so I gather. There's not a lot going round...
He has been seen filming. Episode 1 appears to be a modern day conspiracy thriller type thing. Also apparently the Cybermen are in more than one episode, providing a little arc. And Jodie gets to wear a Victorian dress in her Doctor's colours in the Florence Nightingale episode. (It's grey, with a rather DS9/Voyager style light blue shoulder strip)
They have some slight differences - looks like they've simplified the Nightmare versions' legs and undersuit, put the Cybus guns on the forearms, and modified the sides of the helmets so they have the full earmuffs like in The Invasion. You can see them on location (with an accompanying artist's impression of what they'll look like face-on) here: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/V6mibHwLk14/maxresdefault.jpg
Kind of a hybrid with the 60's-70's head lamp, the 70's-80's earmuffs and the nuWho/Cybus bodies. Could they be doing a take on Spare Parts?
And/or an episode with Florence Nightingale (who tries to treat one, apparently, but that's rumour so far)
Interesting choice considering she encountered them as a companion of The Eighth Doctor in Big Finish's The Silver Turk (an excellent story). I'm sure that if she does appear, there won't be any references to her as a companion whatsoever.
Would be possibly seen as too similar to Capaldi's final two-parter, which recycled the premise from Mondas to Mondasian colony ship.
Were the ones in Spare Parts pure Mondasian versions? I have never listened to the audios, so may have the wrong idea about that one.
Yes, they are. It shows the actual development directly into Cybermen. It's a heartbreaking story that breaks even The Fifth Doctor's spirit (Nyssa, too).
Thanks. I must have had a different story in mind, like they were actually using whatever parts they could find for a patchwork effect. These new ones seem to be consistent with each other if the blurry photo is any indication. But I still like the different eras represented. I wonder if they'll explain the look at all.
They never do, but if you can find a copy of David Banks Cybermen, there’s stuff there that inspires spare parts.
