if that's the case then hopefully Paramount won't be having thoughts about altering or even cancelling it as in their mind it'd be just a one off/ending instead of a relaunch that would lead to multiple sequels/MCU type universes etc. its very unlikely QT would want to do more. Hopefully they'll let him do his movie relatively untouched and 'close the loop' if that's what's being planned (with the help of Treksperts scriptwriters to help iron out any intricate timeline stuff) and then if Paramount wish they can relaunch/reboot the film series a few years after with an all new Primeverse or even JJverse film with a new cast/crew (with various familiar characters or not)

I thought Tarantino's movie wasn't even supposed to be Kelvin Timeline?

BTW: I love this thread - as simply for the fact that anytime I see it has a new post, it gives me hope that we have more tangible Kelvin ST fourth movie news! :p

    Huzzah!

Which would be a fun trick to pull off now considering Bad Robot's new half billion dollar exclusive deal with WB. I think contractually they can only fulfill existing commitments like Rise of Skywalker.

There hasn't actually been a deal signed for a 4th film right? It was just an idea kicking around that got farmed out to one of JJ's C team to write out.

I'm sure the lawyers will have a lot of fun working it out.

Bad Robot doesn't have to be involved in order to continue the Kelvin films. Kurtzman is working for CBS under his own production team, and certainly Tarantino wouldn't need Bad Robot.

It's up to CBS and Paramount to decide how to move forward.

It really doesn't look like it will happen. Many of the actors have moved on. The last movie just didn't perform as well as expected. The series is in a diminishing returns realm now. They are going back to prime universe properties for a reason(even though disvovery is terrible) such as Picard. The Kelvinverse movies were too much like Star Wars. All the drama and thought provoking was gone. Just action. It got boring.

Sure anything is possible but it really does seems to be unlikely. It's been 10 years since the first film and the actors have aged. They can no longer be said to be becoming what they should have been before the timeline created them and changed their lives. So they need to play it in real time now. Over 10 years have passed. Is Spock still an emotional basket case and is Kirk still acting like a frat boy. If so the series will never continue. The trilogy has been done and the last one was terrible. It's most likely over.

To be honest at this point I'm not interested in a "normal" ST4 anymore either. This is a franchise that started 11 years ago, made 3 movies, and ran out of steam somewhere before the middle. A fourth movie wouldn't hurt, but to say I'd be excited would be an exaggeration.

But Quentin Tarantino playing with the (excellent!) cast of ST09 and doing his own completely bonkers spin on TOS?

    Sign me the fuck up!
    Make it happen!

That's not news in any way, shape or form. That's We Got This Covered, a useless clickbait site.

It means exactly as much as if I made something up and posted it in this topic.

I'd rather ten in universe years past, with Kirk far more seasoned and professional, perhaps taking on a training role, like Pike. I'd even be willing to have some time travel (shudders) shenanigans or Tapestry style reflection for Kirk and company as they reflect upon what life might have been.

Give me something like that. Pass on the QT.

These days, I'm leaning more and more to an idea that the next Trek movie probably won't involve anyone (cast or crew) from the last three movies and maybe not even Tarantino either. I think as more time passes, the more time execs from the newly reemerged ViacomCBS will come up with their own ideas of what direction Trek movies will go in. Whenever there seems to be a regime change, projects that were not pretty far along or not outfight set in stone from the previous regime tend to be dropped or changed considerably, IMO.

Failing to take advantage of Tarantino’s interest is such a missed opportunity. It would have done so much to spark interest in Trek.

Then maybe we'll get a full reboot. I'd be down for that. I love Kelvin Trek but I also wouldn't mind fresh eyes on Trek not set to "nostalgia."

I'm inclined to think that's how things will play out, with the suits at ViacomCBS finding someone who has a new vision for Trek that matches theirs.

If your going to let the Kelvin universe just wither on the vine, and do Nothing with it.. no movies, no TV, no comic, books, etc.. then just do a book or something to "Merge the timelines" back to Prime and be done with it..

Strangely enough, they are releasing two Kelvin novels next year.

I hope you're right, although I have a niggling curiosity about what Tarantino could do.

I think finishing off the Kelvin timeline properly would be the only time I'd want to see it again, whether in film, on TV or in print.

I'm very happy with the coming Trek on TV and if they do make more movies I'd hope that it'll be to tell new stories in that continuity.

    There is
    no merging
    of
    the
    timelines.

    Have mercy, it's years.
They are separate realities. Nothing makes prime the only reality that has the right to exist either. It just is the first one you watched. There could be tons of other parallel realities beside the kelvin, what's your problem? I don't get why it's so terribly hard and impossible to accept when the kelvin timeline doesn't even retcon tos.
