Dear lord -- it has been 17 years! Feeling very mortal, suddenly. Still, it's nice to hear the book is fondly remembered. Thanks!

I still have my hardcopy edition. Not sure if it's on a shelf or tucked away in a banker's box, but I have it. Glad I got it.

I read it. I remember being annoyed at the time that it had EVERY android in Trek in it – thought it too fan-service, less realistic. But I've enjoyed stuff like that in subsequent novels (i.e. A Stitch in Time had, like, every Cardassian ever in it too, and that's still probably my favorite ever).

What's the part that crushed you?

There are sequels, by the way. Cold Equations #1: Persistence of Memory and The Light Fantastic make something of a trilogy.

Just don't expect them to be consistent with Star Trek: Picard's version of post-Nemesis events.

Oh wow. What if, eh? Though I imagine if someone else had picked up the licence after that, they would have ignored that story.

My apologies. I meant Persistence of Memory. I was counting the trilogy as:

    1. Immortal Coil
    2. Cold Equations #1: Persistence of Memory
    3. The Light Fantastic

Since the other Cold Equations books had little to do with the AI's.

This is the one where someone tries to blow up the Daystrom Institute and kill Bruce Maddox.
