This and Picard are sure putting a major hole in the (very) tired old argument of "What's the point of going further into the future? They'll just have tighter spandex!" I kept saying "How do you know?" DSC S3 and PIC are proving me right. What future productions will have is what whatever they come up with. And it sure doesn't look like "just tighter spandex!" in either Picard or Disco Season 3 to me.

We had a dedicated Comic-Con thread in Future Trek. So I'm not surprised.

If that's Terralysium then that planet must have gone through some s**t. I'm telling you Season 3 is going to be interesting. I'm starting to wonder if there is still a federation left? is there even an Earth left? 3187 is one heck of a time jump especially since this series was supposed to take place exactly in the year 3000.

There have been spoilers in interviews that they
don't end up at Terralysium and not together (for a while). I wonder if they wind up in the same time at first

If they are leaving Michael by herself on some planet with a new co-lead she'll get upstaged by a more compelling character yet again, and the writers will make her the fulcrum of too many plots and give her too many Burnham Sermons.

My hope for season 3 is that does not happen.

i keep wondering if the red angel thing was just a means of getting discovery into the distant future or if the writers are gonna develop it further. for better or for worse, michael's always been the focal point of the show, with this advanced suit (with or without time travel) she can now essentially be iron man. that seems like something that could be cool. or stupid. but you know.

The angel suit seemingly gave her and her mother unlimited access to time and space. That's way, way more than Iron Man can do on his best day.

Although Momma Burnham did say she never could make any real changes to the timeline despite decades of trying, so maybe it's just the universe's best voyeurism tool.

right. she can time travel (with a time crystal), instantly jump between distant points in space via micro-wormhole (probably relies on the time crystal again), fly and maneuver at high speeds through space, potentially cloak or stay outside the space time continuum enough to remain unseen, create EM pulses, heal the injured... most of this is useful even without the time travel component working.

to the point, there’s a ton of compelling stories that can be told about this. since we’ve already blown past how such technology can even exist, the door’s open.

and oh yeah, she can creep space nine all she wants.

I don't see how it can't happen to be honest. I have seen David Ajala in Supergirl and he is a very charismatic actor. Then he plays a human from the far away future, which is also interesting. If the writing of the character won't totally suck, he very likely will be more compelling than Burnham. They have focused so much on Burnham in the first two seasons that there is practically nothing about her we don't already know and more of the same only works for great characters and I don't think Burnham is so good.

If they are smart, the suit will be broken and impossible to repair at the start of the season. It is a way too overpowered plot device. Get Burnham back to the ship soon and then let her interact with the other main characters who they mostly forgot at the end of the last season.

It seemed like Michael was more effective with her suit, than her mom had been. Honestly the plot got so convoluted and gnarly at the end I couldn't tell who did what. My brain just says "awesome season.. and then some stuff happened at the end" but I THINK Burham's mom (or Bio Mom, or Mom 1.0, she's not lacking in the mom department) was able to at least influence Spock, which set some things in motion, maybe, kind of.. sort of.

They really need better writers and avoid SJW issues like virtue signalling.

Luckily, we won't get the type of third season you want.

And what would those issues be, exactly? Treating people who are different than you with respect? Hiring minorities and women and non-heterosexuals for acting jobs? That kind of insidious stuff?

You've been posting threadshitting around the board (see example from Dr. Who subforum and others below) and spamming threads with clickbait Midnight's Edge videos high on controversy yet completely unsupported by facts, and you've been doing it with little to no explanation of your own position for discussion. It's just lazily trying to provoke a negative reaction.

Therefore for the sum of your recent efforts to troll and spam, you receive an infraction for trolling. Comments to PM.

Yeah I’ve been pretty vocal about that before, and it seems like I’m eating my words now.

    Nope.

Everything shown in the Picard trailer is functionally the same as other 24th century shows - accounting for the obvious 20-year difference in production value. For all intents and purposes, it isn't going into the future. It's just a story taking place later in the characters' lives but still firmly encapsulated in the same "future" as the original show.

There's little to no info on Disco season three. But the current hot-take inference is that it will see a rather sizeable and dramatic clearing of the table in such of far-off time that it's pretty much a reboot. In which case the "future-time" is completely arbitrary. (As if it isn't already.)

Shit. Seven has symbolically thrown away her spandex in favor of something strikingly contemporary. (Much show Ryan's delight.) I can't think of a more direct admission that the dates don't actually matter.

One of the main arguments against going further into the future, or post-Nemesis in general, was "So they can have tighter uniforms?" Both productions take place later and neither look more spandex-y. And if Book is a representative of what we'll see in DSC S3, then a glimpse of what that point in Star Trek is like is right in front of us. While Picard might indeed be "The Present" in Star Trek terms (even though I think 20 years after NEM and the eve of a new century is sufficient enough to call it another time), DSC Season 3 is very much intended to be "The Future". Michelle Paradise has talked about how they've had to design and reimagine an entire future "world". It wouldn't be that much effort or reimagining if it were just lazily going to be "tighter uniforms". In either case, neither PIC nor DSC S3 look like Rick Berman's idea of what it would've looked like if his idea was just "more spandex". That argument was coming out of the mouth of someone who'd been at it for almost 15 years by the end of VOY, and should've known when it was time to move on instead of lingering around.
