@Professor Moriarty My main reference for the moment is the Smithsonian restoration version. It's the easiest to come across references for. If I just do that though, I'll end up with a studio model replica, which is fine of course. What I want to do though is have it look like it's actually a starship. I think I managed that with the Refit while being true to the studio model. The first issue to tackle would be the panel lines. Every model just replicates the pencil line look. I'll try actually separating them first. There's work to be done before I get to that point and you guys will be along for the ride
I did some more work on this yesterday. I think the main modelling is like 80% done. Just have to finish the nacelle and impulse engine and then add the rest of the details. I did the bussards and I like how they came out. All geometry inside. I also did that block thing in engineering, man, that was seven kinds of hell. Still a bit wonky I think so need to do another pass. Anyway, images:
I like the top view of the B/C deck by Everhart, but a bit flatter, as in Shaw's 3 ft. reconstruction, production saucer bottom--but three-footer secondary hull and nacelles... ;} Strange how, in many ways, the TOS Enterprise is harder to get "right" than the refit.
So, I had an odd weekend as I was troubleshooting an error on a client project, ended up not doing much on my projects. I advanced a bit more with the Connie though. I also was thinking my renders were off, turned out just to be an exposure setting wrong on the camera. Anyway, some images: I have also been thinking about the Kusanagi. I need to freeze the design to focus on details. The weapon pod and the housing around the impulse engines are really the last bits that need work. I had this idea for the pod, let me know your opinions:
Hey, look at that! Progress! Took me a while to get back on track, but I'm glad I did. I was afraid I might have to scrap the general weapon pod, but I figured out how to make it work. Might need some general adjustments still. I also did a few quick changes to the bridge. Made the rear windows a bit less wide, and removed one of the round ones. I think this looks better. Need to think what to tackle next.
I'm really loving that Excelsior-style cargo cutout. And the micro lines in the saucer detail... It looks great!
Past couple of weeks were a bit intense with work and then I had a conference last weekend and then new project started this past week, so just had limited time. But, I was able to work a bit this weekend on the ship again. I've been getting a lot of questions on the cargo area, so I took some time to flesh it out. Some of it is not final by any means, especially the windows. I also start to map out how the bridge section will be structured. So you can see the start of the conference room here.
Keep forgetting to post here. I did a lot of work on the conference room. Getting close to a finished state now. I might put it on hold for now though as I need to get back to the exterior
I love the white walls and red door. That and the black display surfaces remind me a lot of the Phase II aesthetics I remember seeing in StarLog Magazine back in the 70s.
Yeah, that was totally an accident, lol. When building my corridor pieces a couple of months ago I liked the look with the panels in white instead of the brushed aluminum, so I decided to use that look for the interiors that are more luxurious.
Absolutely love the attention to detail. Perfect accompaniment to the TMP fleet, such clean lines . The addition of the Cargo Access bay is a great detail to the ships functionality. I understand the Akira design lineage, are you going to refer to the NX Class (Akiraprise) in any way?
Thanks for the compliment And I don't think so, apart from the general layout of the ship. There's not much I like in the NX-01.
Been a few days, but work continues. Did the engineering section panels: Also UV mapped the catamarans. Applied a basic texture, but there's more to do here:
I have several updates to show. A lot of progress on Engineering and I did some work on the Pylons. Also added Arboretum windows on the Catamarans. That was the best place for it in the end.
Cheers! Well, I finished all the major pieces I have a few greebles to add, but after that I can move to proper texturing. A lot of it is placeholder at the moment. Here are the final parts and a couple of 1080p renders:
