I LOVE Doctor Aphra. To get the full story you need to read the Darth Vader and main Star Wars series, they crossed over into each other before Aphra became a Vader spin off. All three books are excellent. Aphra and the murder droids all debut in the Darth Vader series.

Hank Pym was Goliath in that Avengers story, Greg, having recently regained his lost growing abilities in Avengers #51.

True. That's why I said I first encountered "Hank Pym" in that story. I didn't want to get into the whole Ant-Man/Giant-Man/Goliath/Yellowjacket morass.

In the immortal words of Saki: "Sometimes an ounce of inaccuracy saves a ton of explanation." :)

Perhaps so, to people largely unfamiliar with the source material to which you make reference; however, our first duty is to the truth.

The statement, "Mind you, that was back when Hank Pym was Ant-Man," is categorically false. In publication time, Dr. Pym had largely ceased to use the Ant-Man identity approximately four years previously.

However, I will save further pedantry for more appropriate circumstances.

(And why the hell am I writing in the voice of Commander Data? :) )

Although, as I recall, he resumed the role of Ant-Man not long thereafter during the famous "Journey to the Center of an Android."

But the point of my post was not Pym's multiple alter egos, so I left out that distracting detour 'cause it was irrelevant. That's what us writer types do. We smooth out anecdotes, pruning unnecessary details, to avoid losing the forest for the trees. :)

I am enjoying these detours into other literature/TV/movie combinations while we wait for more Picard news, however, I do not want any of them to become arguments (about character details or Lucas's unhappiness about the sequels).

Keep it light, keep it happy :techman:

I notice that Jonathan Frakes suggests that Riker is doing something else that is not Starfleet... wonder when he retired?

Didn't he say, "Non-military" or similar? That could mean theoretically that he hasn't necessarily retired, just that his role as Starfleet officer isn't what he brings to this story. But that might be a stretch on my part.

Could be but I suspect it is as straight forward as it looks - he's retired.

I agree. Already we see from the trailer that Picard is begging some Admiral for help, and I'm guessing she says no.

If Riker were in the show and in Starfleet, he'd probably have enough pull to help Picard out.

I imagine we will hear about some of these Picard novels at Vegas this week. I imagine the first will be out around December/January time.

New Frontier is probably the one series where they could hand-wave all the differences away and it would not feel out of place.

If nothing else, it's nice that the Trek editors at Pocket still have the option to bring back @KRAD and Peter David for further New Frontier and Gorkon adventures. They're now the Star Trek: Enterprise of the Litverse: in-continuity with two completely different continuities by crazy random happenstance. Now, we just need money to bribe the editors with...
