Again, my favorite idea is Star Trek: Left Behind. Have the mainstream of the Federation inexplicably ascended into the sort of ineffable energy beings common in the Trekverse, with just scattered splinter colonies, weird god-tech, and self-aware AI beings left in its wake.

Why exactly do we assume Book is from the future?

It depends on where he is from and his family's origins.

Why not? My name is Anglicized Hebrew. I've never been to England or Israel.

For all we know Cleveland will be the breakout character of the season. This time next year, we'll have threads asking, "Why can't we have a Cleveland Series?" Star Trek: Cleveland.

My name is French and German. I have limited German ancestry though.

    Names are weird.

Not to mention no shortage of Aarons of all kinds, which is what, a 3000+ year old name?

Won't there have been a bunch of humans from the US hanging about in the Beta Quadrant for 1000 years by the time Discovery gets back there again?

No, Star Trek: Book. It's quite novel.

The future already has a Book.

It could be Cleveland is his given name, or family name, and Booker is an occupational name, in this case meaning he is involved in maintaining old books or in some other scribal type function.
