That's deeply fucking stupid and not how any of this works. Bad Robot was hired by Paramount/CBS, the motherfucking copyright holders, to produce Star Trek projects for them. The copyright holders own the rights to fucking everything and dictate what IP the people they hire can and cannot use for the projects the company wants them to make.

This isn't rocket science. If J.J. Abrams wants to put Neelix in the movie, the company that hired him has the right to say, "Fuck no!" Him not being it doesn't mean Abrams doesn't have access to the rights of Neelix. For fuck's sake, man. You honestly believe this shit?

Patrick Stewart did say he had 3 Romulans on his crew in one interview. So probably.

There isn't. This is all based on a John Eaves comment and the YouTube conspiracy theorists went ballistic. They freaked out because our beloved NCC-1701 wasn't an exact copy from its 1964 counterpart -- right down to the painted nacelle caps. And John Eaves said something, erroneously, about how it was stated it needed to be changed for legal reasons. This was followed up as being inaccurate and it was said that the Enterprise was slightly modified to be "modernized," because...it was 2018 and not 1964.

If that was a holodeck scene (like the Hawking, EINSTEIN etc poker holodeck scene from TNG) maybe Picard walks out & says to the programmer "you haven't got Data quite right" as he walks off....

THOUGHT: What if this week as Frakes back as Riker and Picard back in uniform they're filming the Short Trek? They're usually about 15-18 minutes.

They seem to be going back to TOS Style Romulans, though some of the ones in the trailer seemed to have pronounced brows like in ST09.

Also, to follow up on my above comment, I thought CBS and Paramount kept the films and TV series separate, but, the Star Trek: Picard trailer clearly proves I'm inaccurate. The trailer is nearly a full nod to Nemesis as well as the fallout from the events of Star Trek 2009 being a major point in the plot.

I could be completely mis-remembering this, but, I watched a lecture by Nicholas Meyer on YouTube *or I could have been reading an interview) -- though apologies, I can't recall which one it was -- and he was asked about the status of Khan mini-series and I remember him mentioning something to the effect of, it's on hold because it uses elements that were established in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which Paramount technically owns. I don't believe CBS's ownership in the franchise is retroactive for the films, but, I could be wrong. I don't fully know what the division of ownership is outside of CBS owning the TV rights and Paramount maintaining the film rights. This could all be null and void, however, if that Viacom merger happens.

The Countdown Comics that were 'prequals' to ST: 2009 were written from a storyline by Orci & Kurtzman and therefor produced under the alternative licence & they show the events in the Prime Universe up until Nero & Spock travel through time

Prime Universe can't be the original continuity because they didn't have a licence to do anything in the original continuity - all that remained exclusive property of CBS

At the end of the day it's about money. CBS had little interest in ST at the time, but they very much were interested in the income it generated. But at the same time Bad Robot / Paramount wouldn't put the effort in to make the movies if they couldn't market products based on it - hence the alternative licence

There has to be a visual difference between the 2 properties for that reason - who collects the merchandising money

Holy hell! I am so fracking STOKED for this show after seeing that trailer! It did for TNG what the TNG movies never did. It gave me that "reunion" feel like the TOS movies.

Some other points: interesting that we didn't see any Federation ships in the trailer. I guess they don't want to give away all the surprises at once. With Riker and Troi returning, I gather we'll likely see the Titan (assuming they're still serving on it 20 years on).

Definitely Borg cube. Note the sign: "This facility has gone 5843 days without an assimilation". Love it!

Good! It makes me like this show that much more now!

This actually makes much more sense and is more plausible given how the industry works than the other weirdness some people seem to have accepted as gospel (the 25%/it has to be a different continuity or whatever).

You're welcome! It took me all of ten seconds to find. When you consider the time it takes to find the truth versus the production time these conspiracy theorists spend putting these videos together, it's clear to me that the truth isn't on their agenda. They believe what they want and use it as ammo to discredit new Trek.

Look, I’m not trying to be mean but there is no precedent for this kind of arrangement at all and is demonstrably false.

    Back on track.

It may have been theorized already, but, I think Data is just appearing in a dream. He looks to be wearing a First Contact era uniform and refers to Jean-Luc as "Captain." Picard was still a Captain when we last saw Data and as we saw in the first trailer, Picard was referred to as an Admiral. Interestingly, at the Picard panel, Spiner said Data will appear throughout the season several times in different ways. I have a weird feeling Picard is going to have some sort of recurring dream of him or "visions" of Data throughout the season.
