Star Trek Original Series Set Tour

I'm heading to Boston/NH later this summer. I hope to be able to talk the family into letting my head over there. It sounds amazing!

 

Do you need special dispensation or an upgraded tour level to sit in the chair? I can't imagine that everyone is allowed to do that.

 

I've been three times...twice normal tours and once with William Shatner (last spring) and it is as amazing as you'd expect, and more.

And, you bet your ass, I sat in that chair every single time!!

 

Was it comfortable? Could you sit there for a a whole 8 hour shift patrolling the neutral zone?

With those beautiful engineering and environmental systems panels (my favorites). Eat your heart out, Discovery (and Abrams).

 

Maybe go for the big chair at Trekonderoga.

 

It actually was fairly comfortable! I don't think an eight hour shift would fly with them though!

Great pics! I'm filming some scenes as Capt Kirk for an edit I am doing, and it looks like your uniform top is similar to the one I bought recently!

 

Vger, your boys are simply adorable! Great pics. The one at the helm looks like he has the complete idea how to work the controls!

Did they shrink the size of the viewscreen, maybe to make room for that door to the starboard side? (Which I assume is for actual access to the set.)

I'm not sure about the view screen size. It might just be the angle the photo was taken at. It looked correct in person, but you're right, it looks a little small in this picture.

I think that "door" to the starboard has since been completed, and the set is fully enclosed. The access is now a corridor that leads from Engineering to the turbolift.

More great pics - thank you! I am so impressed with how they did the lighting in particular, among many other things. Engineering just looks fantastic!

The viewscreen does look small to me but maybe it's just an optical illusion (or it wasn't as big on the show as I'm thinking for some reason). Does anyone else have an opinion?

 

The viewscreen is of course a flat screen TV, and it isn't quite full-size because the price increase for going up to that diagonal was crazy. They just couldn't justify it at the time. At least, that's what I recall from a prior thread.

When the sets were in actual use for filming episodes, they used a full-size blank screen for fx added in post production, same as The Original Series.
