I already own this season on DVD (it was one of the few full season Doctor Who sets released on DVD, probably because it kind of counts as having one overarching story), but its cool that its getting a Blu Ray release.

I hope we get a Season 22 set eventually, if only because I'd have to sell a damn kidney to get The Two Doctors or The Mark of the Rani right now because of how ridiculously overpriced out of print Classic Who DVDs are in the US (The Two Doctors is around $271 at minimum in the US, but only £5 in the UK, and The Mark of the Rani is usually equally priced). Even a $50-60 set would be worth getting to get the 6th Doctor stories I'm missing (The Two Doctors, The Mark of the Rani and Revelation of the Daleks). Since the sixth Doctor only ever got two seasons anyway, I really hope they end up getting to season 22.

I personally like all the stories to some extent, although Terror of the Vervoids is pretty weak. As a season its not as strong as 22, but its certainly stronger then any of McCoy's seasons.

That's funny because Terror of the Vervoids is the only serial from that season that I actually enjoy.

I don't dislike Terror, but for me its the weakest story of that season. Honestly, the only thing I really wish was different about the season (besides the fact that it was Colin Baker's last) was them going back on Peri's fate. I actually like Peri a lot as a companion, but they should have just let her stay dead. I don't know why it was ok for Adric, a kid, to die (although I completely approve of that obnoxious brat going down), but Peri had to be given a...happy (?) ending.

So that explains why Pertwee Season 10 got pushed off to October here in the States, this must be coming next. Don't see it on Amazon US yet though.

Which Peri? Thanks to Big Finish and the Time Lords' after-the-fact meddling, there are now seven of them, each with a very different fate.

As for why they went back on Peri's death in '86, well... Eric Saward was aiming for Peri to stay dead and the season to end on a Holmes-Moriarty style cliffhanger (Six and Valeyard brawling in the Matrix) that could theoretically serve as a series finale, given current events. JN-T, on the other hand, was determined to end the season on a 'We're open for business and not going anywhere' note, and refused to leave the fans even more pissed off than they already were (Hi, Bonnie Langford!) by leaving the popular Peri dead. It was one of the issues that led to Saward walking out and the wheels coming off the whole Trial season at the end.

    Lol. Love the ending.

Saward always comes off as an immense twat in documentaries.

When I rewatched that season about 5-6 years ago, it was the first time I'd seen it since it originally came out. Yeah, that's how much I like that season.

I did enjoy Terror of the Vervoids quite a bit. I was also surprised at how much I liked the Mysterious Planet too. That was one that I had almost no memories of at all!

I don't foresee season 22 coming out on blu ray in the US before season 10 does in October. Highly unlikely.

A while back I made my own movie version of a trial-less Vervoids. I don’t know if I still have it on my computer somewhere. Interesting exercise. I don’t know if a trial-less Mysterious Planet would work. Maybe if the trial’s censoring of “Earth” could be removed.

The date being sited is September 23, on both coasts.

A certain fan editor online already did that, and it did seem to work surprisingly well (if a bit abrupt with the cuts, but that was unavoidable).

Making a version like that for all episode possible for the blu ray would be a real selling point.

Hey pal, check out the Canadian BBC shop site!

The BBC is putting 10 DVD Doctor Who titles back in print, starting this week with "Manufacturing on Demand", including-

    "Mark of the Rani".

Hopefully they continue this program and reprint "The Two Doctors".

This is my public service to you. You're welcome :)

I was starting to get upset right up until the very last minute until they finally acknowledged William Hartnell.

I'm not seeing Colin's set listed on Amazon US at all. So, color me skeptical at this point for a late September release. Meanwhile, Pertwee's set is still listed for release on October 15.

Is that inclusive of extras from the original DVD Trial of a Timelord box-set?

Not just documentaries. There’s an unpleasantness in his writing that slowly leads to the same conclusion. He would have been very popular these days, he was grimdark before it was thing...I can’t deny it was well done...I just don’t think it was right for Who, and it did more harm than good.
