Just read this. He wrote some of Trek‘s best and most memorable episodes, some of which I consider my all-time favorite episodes, like ”Duet“ or ”In The Pale Moonlight“. His name and his words will live on through his work. May he rest in peace.
How old was this guy? He started as a lawyer then didn't like it then became a TV writer in the 60s for Man from Uncle! He had to have been 90 years old right at least. At any rate and impressive list of Star Trek credits some awesome episodes. Rest in peace
I had no idea that some of my favourite all time Trek episodes were all written by one guy. Amazing. RIP
RIP. Peter Allan Fields might not of been the most prolific Trek Writer, but pound for pound, I think he was the best. I mean, look at his writing credits: TNG: Half a Life (Finally figured out how to do something compelling with Lwaxana Troi) Cost of Living (Again, good character work on Lwaxana, and the only non-annoying use of Alexander in TNG) The Inner Light (Do I need to say more?) DS9: Dax (Honestly kinda meh - his worst episode overall, though the weakness of Terry Farrell early on played a role) Progress (A great early DS9 character work - probably would have been the best of Season 1 if it wasn't for...) Duet (One of the best hours of Trek) The Circle (Great middle episode in three-part arc) Necessary Evil (The best episode of DS9's second season overall, and that's saying a lot, considering how many strong contenders there were) Blood Oath (The episode where we start to "get" Dax, lots of fanwank (in a good way) and fun to boot). Crossover (The only time DS9 did the MU and it wasn't totally hammy) For The Uniform (A great episode marred only because of the out-of-character decision by Sisko to commit war crimes) In the Pale Moonlight (Need I say more?) The Dogs of War (The penultimate episode of the entire series, with plenty of fantastic moments). Really, if he had just written The Inner Light, Duet, and In the Pale Moonlight alone he would have had a great legacy in Trek. But every episode he had a hand in was at least decent, and most were excellent.
He wrote excellent episodes, and the STAR TREK franchise owes him a huge debt of gratitude. Timeless episodes that will live on for generations. He left a great legacy. Thank you so very much for what you gave us all, Mr. Fields. You will be missed.
Pete was my uncle. He was a very smart, witty guy. I tortured him when I was a kid, trying to get him to quit smoking and other things that kids do. We definitely had a bond. I miss him.

Yep, he was a cool guy. I've been fortunate enough to have my own successes in the biz as well, but I definitely respected Pete's talent.
