I'm the first one, and probably way too harsh, to critizise new Trek content if it does something really stupid.

But hell, I think NONE of the creators - neither from Star Trek, nor anything else - deserve the outright hate they get! No matter weather it's Kurtzman, Berman & Braga, Steven Moffat, Weiss & Benioff, or freakin' George Lucas. The personal hate is fucking stupid and undeserved!

Those are some hard working people, working their asses off to give us something we like. Yeah, they may make some stupid shit, and make outright mistakes. So what? Without these people we would have nothing. They gave us their work in the first place.

And what if that work outright sucked sometimes? So what. That happens. Making a movie is fucking hard. We don't know what happened behind the scenes. A movie can suck because someone, in the last second, didn't get a filming permit, and instead of filming an important plot point they have to explain it in the edit. I'm still complaining when it sucked. But no one set out to do a bad thing. Ever. These guys are role models.

I might include Anson Mount as the captain they were going to pick up from Vulcan, with the same basic character but not as Pike. Michael's connection to Spock was already enough to make a connection to needing to go find him, so they could tell most of the rest of the story as they did.

I like what they did already, but I wish we could keep Mount, is basically what I'm saying.

michael burnham wont be the lead focused character. star trek should never had a lead focused character. even the golden trio of TOS (kirk, spock, mccoy) wont work today and that is one of the many reason TNG was the better show to me.

Michael is way too much of a mary sue. also the fact that she is this new character who has inserted her way in everything and is basically the chosen one of the trek universe is beyond unbelievable.

i still cant believe she was the red angel all along, how predicable are the writers.

I don't get your reasons for disliking Michael Burnham.
First, she's not a Mary Sue by any means, she starts as a criminal sentenced to life in prison, she couldn't be less of a Mary Sue. Even if you disagree with the way she was treated by the end of ep 2, you have to admit that she screwed up in a big way!!

Second, she needs other's people's input to make things right with her friends like Ash Tyler for instance. She refuses to see him even though Saru was convinced that she would.

How many episodes of the two seasons have you seen?

Pike is more of a Mary Sue than Burnham is.

Now compare what the show has done with Owo, Detmer and Airiam, to Bryce or Rhys. Hell even the useless Cmdr Nhan has gotten more to do than the two men. "Yum yum" :barf2:

That was wrong too, society has grown up since then. Unfortunately, Discovery swings the pendulum way, way too far the other way. It's just so forced. Hell even Airiam's replacement is female.

Erm, what does this even mean? Why should we know anything about Detmer, Owo, Airiam or Nhan then?

Airiam's replacement (Lt. Nillsen) is literally the same actress who originally played Airiam, Sara Mitich. She had an adverse skin reaction to the prosthetic makeup, so she was replaced as Airiam by actress Hannah Cheeseman in Season 2. Then when they killed off Airiam, they simply replaced her with the original actress as a new character so they could retain her.

So for all your nonsense complaining about reverse gender imbalances, it was simply a switch to give the same actress they originally hired her old job back.

Except, even the writers of TNG and TOS acknowledge that Picard and Data and Kirk and Spock were the main focus of those shows. DS9 was far more of an ensemble show than even TNG aspired to be.

The rest about Burnham has been discussed ad nauseum.

    Let's see:

    • Pike m
    • Burnham f
    • Saru m
    • Tilly f
    • Spock m
    • Georgiou f
    • Stamets m
    • Reno f
    • Culber m
    • Airiam f
    • Tyler m
    • L'Rell f
    • Leland m
    • Cornwell f
    • Sarek m
    • Amanda f
    • Number One f
    • Detmer f
    • Owo f
    • Nhan f

    Male = 8 , female = 12

So, what am I seeing here? Four more characters of which two have been mostly used as background bit characters (Detmer and Owo), and Airiam who was given the entirety of her backstory in the episode she was killed off in. In case you are wondering why I bolded some names, I went through the opening credits to see who the show claims as it's main cast, and it's four men vs two women. And on the male side, pretty much every male character had more and/or more important scenes than Detmer, Owosukun, and Nhan combined. This is not an exhaustive list, I left out people who had scenes as guest appearances (Poe, Tenavik, Sirana) and I left out Bryce and Rhys because they are barely characters, but I might have been able to claim Linus, because if Detmer and Owo count as characters because we've been given tidbits about them and not Rhys and Bryce, my sassy boy Linus should count.

Well done. I figure the math would bear out that it wasn't as disparate as claimed.

Airiam was the only one of those three to have anything significant done, and all that was in the episode where she died. Owo went off on an away team and Detmer revealed she was twelve when she got her pilot's license.
So, she said "yum-yum" and suddenly she's hogging the spotlight? Okay.
It means the main cast are the priority. Which they are, those four female characters you mention don't have anything significant role on the show either.

One other thing I'd change (besides not caving in to bashers): Sarek and Amanda's goodbye to Burnham. Discovery and the Enterprise are in the middle of a huge battle against Control. Not exactly the time to pay her a visit in person. The goodbye should've happened in Part I with the others.

It was just a cringe-worthy line, from a character who's shown herself to be utterly useless, that's all I meant with that.

No, I don't want to change anything. Because I'm not a professional writer. I don't want to take any responsible if my day dreaming cause the fall of the franchise. As I'm not sure if my taste can satisfy the whole Star Trek Fan base. What happen if my imagination make the fans angry, and then yell at me; and make a similar thread like this?

So no. for me, Discovery season 2 is already as good as it is.

I'm not going to lie. If I were writing an episode and I was checking here, one of the things I'd be wondering about is, "Do all the right people hate it?" I'd take their trying to rip it to shreds as thinking I did my job. Like I told someone once who said You Tube would rip "Point of Light" to shreds: "Let them do their worst." I love that episode.

Anyone who creates anything -- or supports it, for that matter -- has to be unafraid of what people will say.

I would have set the entire show post-NEM. Everything else would fall from that point.

The Spore drive. When Star Trek is basically founded on warp drive tech. The importance of warp capability that gets pointed out throughout the show etc. but suddenly: spore drive. Instant transportation. It made me feel like Disco never really belonged in Trek.

I can live with more females on the crew even all female crew. I dont care about that as long as it is not explicitly talked about or pointed out in the show, because it breaks immersion.
