    From Variety:
    Full Story HERE.
"Sources tell Variety that Robert Pattinson is in negotiations to play “The Batman” in Matt Reeves’ forthcoming superhero film, which hits theaters June 25, 2021.

While sources say it’s not yet a done deal, Pattinson is the top choice and it’s expected to close shortly. Warner Bros. had no comment.

Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer.

Reeves, the filmmaker behind the last two “Planet of the Apes” sequels, assumed “Batman” directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017 and has been developing the elusive project ever since. Affleck and Warner Bros. began discussing the actor-director leaving the Caped Crusader behind following “Justice League,” allowing Reeves to pick his own Bruce Wayne. Pattinson was cast even as Reeves continues to polish a final version of the script."

Um.....Ewww. Well, there's one superhero film I can skip. I just don't see how this is going to work. He's not a good actor and always looks like it's been days since he's seen a shower. I guess we will just have to wait and see how this plays out. I'm all for giving the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt .....but GEEZ.

Not a good actor? What have you seen him in? (Twilight notwithstanding). I'm not being sarcastic, that's a genuine question because I'm not entirely sure I've seen him in anything (including Twilight) but I've heard he's been doing some interesting left field stuff and putting in good performances based on the view of several critics I respect. (actually I saw him in Water for Elephants, as far as I can recall he was ok in that)

He's brooding and intense, is older than Bale was when he took on the role and certainly looks the part. Short of sticking David Mazouz in some kind of aging machine I'm ok with this.

There being a backlash over Batman's casting isn't new. Keaton, Affleck, probably Kilmer. Heck wasn't there an uproar over Bale? In fact, and this is completely anecdotal, wasn't the only Batman casting to get any kind of approval Clooney?

I learned my lesson over Daniel Craig so I try (not always successfully) to be non judgy until I see the film.

This has been rumored for awhile now so I'm not surprised.

Like Starkers, I've learned not to judge a casting before I see the film, thanks to Heath Ledger as the Joker. Boy, was I (and so many others) ever wrong about that one.

I haven't seen Pattinson in anything other than Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but if he's anything like Kristen Stewart, he's probably a good actor who's trying to get away from the long shadow of Twilight.

    Sparkling Caped Crusader.

But TBH, if Bale and Ledger can pull off playing iconic DC characters, why not Robert Pattinson ?

I've seen it said by film buffs that both Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are actually very good actors who are unfairly condemned by people who have no evidence beyond Twilight. I can believe that. If you'd only seen Natalie Portman in Star Wars, you'd think she was a bad actress, and she isn't. Sometimes actors give bad performances because they aren't directed well, or because they have weak material. Heck, I thought Scarlett Johansson was the weakest actor in Iron Man 2, but it turned out she just had the shallowest character. Once The Avengers came along and she was given a role with actual substance, she blew me away, and she's been invaluable to the MCU franchise ever since. It just goes to show -- first impressions should only be where you start forming your opinions, not where you stop.

Besides, it's been 11 years since Twilight, 7 years since the conclusion of the series. Actors can grow and improve. When I first saw Ryan Gosling in the Young Hercules TV series, I thought he was terrible. I was really surprised when he went on to be this acclaimed, in-demand movie actor. Apparently he got better.

I don't remember, but I still think he would've been ideal for the role if he'd had better material.

Patterson has good range and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one of my all time favourite movies, so i have full faith in Matt Reeves. Plus, I wont lie, I'm kind of 'interested' to see a bulked up Robert Pattinson

He already proved he was a real actor when he started working with David Cronenberg. I'm fine with this.

I think it’s a great choice. He’s a good actor and looks right for the role.

Besides, Batman is the star of the movie. If you do Batman right—and there’s a lot of definitions of right—you are more than halfway home.

He was great in Good Time. I'm not a comic superhero guy but if the new Batman film is under 115 minutes and not a bloated 3 hour epic, I may be interested...

Pattinson's got the look. Other than Keaton, perhaps, it's not like these films have demanded Oscar caliber work out of the guy in the cowl doing the Eastwood imitation.

Looks like we're getting a Batman/Bruce Wayne younger looking in appearance. I hope this doesn't mean another Batman origin story. If I have to see Bruce Wayne's parents getting killed yet again....

They have talked for awhile the new movie would take place earlier in Bats career, so not surprising. But, hopefully we don’t need to go over, again, Martha and Thomas getting killed.

Reportedly this is not an origin story, but a detective-themed story early in Batman's career. I like the idea of a movie focusing on the detective side of Batman for a change.

The furore over Patterson is just due to knee-jerk typecasting. That photo does sell the look. Heck, even Craig had the look while the makers laughed up their rhyme of "Blond Bond".

But the look isn't as essential as being true to the character is. If they keep the feel of the franchise to match Patterson's look in that photo, of a cold, ruthless spy that lives on the edge and does what he needs to in order to save the country, the world, himself, etc, then what's to gripe about? Oh wait, I just brought up him as a possible James Bond. That might work too... But back to Batman: Depends on where they take the character and scripts as there's the old comic book style, Adam West's brilliant interpretation, all the movies from 1989 onward and the styles therein... People are being way too quick to bash the guy, which is absolutely unfair. But that's why popcorn sales are good. :)
