Picard has usually been portrayed as about a decade older than Patrick Stewart, implying greater longevity in the future (although in this he'd be about 15 years older than Stewart). In DS9, Dax once predicted that O'Brien would live to be 140, implying that that's a typical "long, full life" for a 24th-century human.

They look more like a cross between the TNG and early DS9 uniforms to me. Regardless, they look great!

You're right. I forgot in late DS9 they switched to the grey uppers with the color coding only on the undershirts. I believe that was in concert with First Contact's uniform redesign.

TNG used color with black uppers through its entire run as well as Generations. I believe Voyager used the "early DS9" uniform through its entire run though.

But that doesn't make sense. Shouldn't they be wearing the grey "First Contact" uniforms? Anyways you know what I am thinking? This pic is much better than that famously discouraging first pic of "Discovery" of the Not-Klingon guy eating lunch or something. The show has already started on a positive spin that "Discovery" wasn't able to.

Actually, it should be the AGT Future Uniforms, but I'm not complaining. Fashion comes and goes in cycles, even though it's never quite exactly the same the second time around. I like these uniforms better than the FC or AGT ones.

Depends on the time period the picture was representing. Was it a memory of Picard's past? Is it set in the current timeline of the Picard series? Did Starfleet change the uniforms yet again?

Yeah, that guy in the front left looks like he's wearing a 2-piece, jacket and pants, rather than the DS9-style jumpsuits.

Why? Again, the reported time frame is 2398. The furthest forward that we've ever seen the FC-style uniforms in use in the main timeline is 2379 in Nemesis; the furthest forward we've seen them in any version of the timeline is 2390 in Voyager: "Timeless." As Lord Garth said, previous portrayals of the 2390s-2420s have used the solid-color "All Good Things" uniforms, but those were all in futures that got erased.

Me I like seeing the uniforms as well. It does make me think of Berman era Trek and even though this is going to be a more serious Picard show I think I can see what Kurtzman might have been talking about when he said it would still contain some of the spirit of TNG. The grey uniform was just me being nitpicky.:)

I always preferred the DS9/VOY shoulders, except for the collars. They grey uniforms didn't have enough color.

These are the Starfleet Academy versions of the uniforms from the TNG era with the colored collar.

So the scene could be Picard at the Academy.

Do we know for a fact that this isn't just a pic from a Trek convention?
I've seen a lot of Trek conventions that look just like this.

Yeah I mean the collars on the Picard uniforms are reminiscent of the TNG uniforms. Other than that they lean heavily toward DS9/Voyager uniforms

Agreed. The grey shoulders on the latter-DS9/TNG film uniforms always looked too big and baggy on the men. I found it very distracting.

The solid colours of the Gens/Voy/DS91-5 uniforms were more to my taste as well.

Which gave way to a version where the body is grey rather than black. So it's still 50/50. I hope these new uniforms are the standard, I like the colored shoulders more than the grey.

Maybe they’ll retcon the dominion war era uniforms as a wartime only thing?

My guess is he's going to be trying to prove some wild archaeological theory that's so outlandish that no reputable institution will support him, so he's had to recruit a ragtag crew.
