The show is successfull enough that it continues to get made. That's the thing that matters. That's also the only thing that I believe.

As for "most popular streaming show"? Yeah, I don't believe it. Because the one thing that's actually missing is the actual streaming numbers. CBS keeps those. All it reall measures is the "Noise" on the Internet. And Star Trek is, and always has been, the exception when it comes to fan engagement.

The only other franchise that has even more dedicated fans might be Firefly's "browncoats". If they made a celebratory Firefly-documentation, you can bet your ass that's going to be the most-talked about event of the entire year when you measure just online chatter. The same way EVERY Trekkie has an opinion on DIS. And not just one - multiple, every day. DIS is in the lower top five of shows I currently follow. But guess what - I'm not writing for ANY of these other shows on a message board, and I'm writing here, like, daily. All I'm saying is - lacking actual streaming numbers - I don't believe any of these predictions. They might be correct most of the time. But Star Trek - like Firefly - is definitely an exception in terms of fan engagement rules.

But the title here isn't the 'most streamed show', now is it?

The title is "#1 Streaming Show in the World". And I don't believe that one bit.
I DO however completely believe "Streaming Show with #1 engaged fanbase in the World".
    And that's not bad either.

And Superman and Batman are often described the #1 and #2 superheroes on the planet many say. But are they the most watched?

And Game of Thrones is often bandies about as the #1 TV series on the planet, but I doubt its the most watched either.

Honestly, I'll take a Star Trek that engages the fanbase than one that provides it the entertainment version of a snuggie. IMO, there were a lot of ways Disco could have gone that would have made someone like me just shrug and go on with my day.

Yes, like if they had made another TNG/VOY/ENT clone.

Reality has a way of slapping people in the face after living in a world of delusion. It’s one of the great joys in life.

I think hate watching is bogus - what do you call that kind of nonsense? Fake news... that's it  Do people seriously think that someone would spend money to hate watch?? The word hate gets thrown around so aggressively like it's supposed to shut a dissenting opinion up. Tedious really. That being said any kind of interest in the show is better than apathy and any kind of 'title' like "Number 1 Streamed Show in the... Wooorld" has got to be good for the future of the platform the show is on and good for the show itself. Context.

I think it's insane. Yet, we had people here during the season who watched and the way they posted, it sounded like they were hate-watching. Which isn't the same as simply being critical of the show.

So, I don't know what they were doing or what their mindset was. It's a foreign concept to me because I'd never do that.

I know the actual fans should be proud because they are very embracing and encouraging of the show, which comes naturally when you like something. I'm going to watch this season before the next one and do so without posting (you're welcome ). Binge watch it but I need to get the DVDs to do that. A different metric.

People hate Discovery the same way that people hate the nice lady who ties them up at whips them at the local BDSM club.

I hate-watched the last season of True Blood or more accurately watched to see Bill get killed and because the season before burned me out and I decided to stick with it until the bitter end to see what happened.

If they had spun it off into a show where Pam and Lafayette solved mysteries I'd be all over that.

I think it's a bit like Deep Thought. Instead of thinking for a long time, it researches for a long time. And instead of coming to an answer of 42, it gets 47.

I'll be frank - while I don't "hate watch", as far as Star Trek goes, I definitely "watch despite being majorly annoyed". If "Discovery" weren't tied to the Star Trek license - I would have given up on the show in the middle of Season 1. And then completely missed out on Season 2, which I genuinely like, warts and all.

But that's the game. "Star Trek" gets a pass for me much more than any other show. But it will also annoy me at times, and make me go vent on the Internet (whereas other stuff... I just stp watching). People always tell me to "go watch Babylon 5", because "It get's so much better". But... I just can't get through the first seasons. Whereas DS9 - I thought the first two seasons were actually worse. But I soldiered through to get to the good stuff. Because "Star Trek" is also a premise. And they might get it completely wrong (ENT season 1&2), but if they actually get it right, there is few fiction I enjoy more (including ENT season 3&4). DIS got that premise extremely wrong in the beginning too. But I knew it was in there somewhere. And lo and behold! Season 2 did a whole lot of things much, much better.

I stopped watching TB after they spent *3 full episodes on the funeral of one secondary character*. IMO, the people who complained that Airiam's under 10 minutes worth of funeral went on way too long, well...:wtf:

It will be interesting to see how Discovery's numbers are impacted by Pike, Spock and the Enterprise exiting stage left for season three.

The article says "Star Trek: Discovery was the most in-demand digital original series worldwide". The most streamed show was likely an old TV show like The Office or Friends again, but they are of course not "original" streaming series.

When it comes to only digital original series worldwide, maybe DIS was also the most streamed one in that month and not only the most talked about. It is after all a part of a big franchise known worldwide and has therefore a certain amount of garantueed viewers. All the original series which aren't part of a franchise have a marketing disadvantage.
