It would be nice, it would be really nice, if the Cubs would stop finding new ways to look like an absolutely scummy organization.

It's not like this is new behavior for Theo Epstein; he and Larry Lucchino ruled the Boston media with an iron fist, and if they decided they didn't like you when you were leaving town, they'd smear the shit out of you and the media were more than happy to carry the water for the organization. If they liked you, they'd hail you as a conquering hero, and the media were happy to go along with it. And the Red Sox under Epstein / Lucchino were more than happy to blacklist a writer who pissed them off.

What boggles my mind is that Addison Russell is not particularly good at baseball (whatup, that 75 OPS+ last year), and so I don't understand why the Cubs are going to such lengths to protect him, particularly when even if Javy Baez's bat falls off a cliff--which I strongly feel it will, at some point pitchers are going to catch up to him having absolutely zero discipline--he's still a substantially better defender than Russell is. The only thing I can think of is that the trade for Russell was one of Epstein's first bombshell trades and he wants to save face rather than admit the guy's a bust, especially when guys he's traded like Vogelbach and Jimenez are looking to be stars.

Red Sox look pretty pathetic right now. They are losing games this year that last year they found ways to win. I know it's still very early but it's puzzling. When they swept the Rays in Tampa, I thought they were turning the corner but nope.

The Cubs have made a nice turnaround. Now 4 games over .500, they have the 2nd best run differential in MLB after dumping 11 on the Mariners yesterday.

And Rizzo, Bryant & Schwarber are still not really hitting.

I hope they can keep it up.

    The Cubs reinstated Addison Russell.

    Fuck this team.

    Mets beat Cincy...with Syndergaard's homer.

He's the first pitcher in 36 years to homer and throw a complete game in a 1-0 victory.

Kyle Hendricks was seemingly the last Cubs starter looking for a good start. He got it.

    9 IP, 4H, 3K, 81 pitches (63 for strikes) vs the Cards.

1.5 GB of the Cards now.

The Cubs are the hottest team in MLB right now.

A 7 game win streak, a sweep of the Cards over the weekend and a half game lead in the Central. Nice turnaround from a 3-8 start.

I hope we don't overlook the Marlins the next 4 games, we got the Brewers coming in next weekend.

The Cubs have 42 games in the next 44 days. With the way Maddon handles the bullpen, something's going to break at some point.

They really have had a lot of off days, which they seemed to need after that start.

Maybe Chatwood is good for one or two more spot starts. He wasn't good out of the pen last night.

I have to figure that at some point, at least one of Lester, Q, Hendricks, Darvish or Hamels will just get worn out. Here's hoping that Mike Montgomery returns soon and they use him as a sixth starter.

21 years ago today, Kerry Wood threw the game of the century (or at least decade) with 20 K's.

    Story

1998 was Jim Riggleman's turn to break Kerry, wheras 2003 was Dusty's turn. Still a hell of a game and I'm glad I was watching.

More than a month into the season and Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel still haven't signed with any teams. I guess they're still asking for too much money.
