Is TNG your favourite?

First question - No, that's a tie between TOS and DS9
Second Question - No, that's would probably be The West Wing

 

I'd say it's probably my favorite Trek, because I've watched it more than any other series. However, I do also really love those TOS episodes just as much. So maybe a tie for favorite... for different reasons.

Is it my favorite show of all time? Probably. I can't think of one I have a more intimate knowledge of & connection to

“All-time favorite” is difficult because it changes all the time, and I just know that in this day and age something else will appear and overshadow whatever I like best at the moment. At various points in time I might have said Star Trek, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica (2003+), LOST, Game of Thrones, but I’d also make a sharp distinction between fandom favorites and series that could legitimately be called some of the best ever: The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, The Twilight Zone (original).

As for the Star Trek series, it’s fairly obvious that DS9 stands out a bit more than TNG for seven seasons of a consistently developing ensemble cast, whereas TOS is hit-and-miss and everything else forgettable for the most part. I’d expect the same result on a set of independent metrics evaluating the evolution of storytelling in each of the shows.

 

This actually breaks my heart to say, since TNG was yes and yes for 99% of my life, but after seeing BOTH seasons of Discovery, it's gotta be no and no for me too.

No. TOS.

Is TNG your all time favourite series?
No. Space:1999(1975-1977) especially season one.

 

I actually think there's a pretty solid argument that Star Trek TOS is the greatest television series of all time.

Of course there's no definitive way to determine this...but I think that the original Star Trek is one of a very small percentage of shows that would have a legitimate case.

 

1. Nope... I can hear younger me screaming now. I do love TNG, but it's number 3 for me after DS9 and TOS. Although I've watched it the most out of every series.
2. As a whole, Star Trek must be my favorite television series. There's little in my life I've spent as much time fixated on.

Favorite? I'm not sure - I still think I'd put DS9 above it. However, TNG is certainly the most comforting. I'm more likely to put on a random episode of TNG than any other Trek show.

No tricks at all, you were very clear in your meaning.

 

Bur unlike Discovery, TNG had something of an ensemble in S1 already and grew into a solid, character-driven show without the concept getting retooled twice (so far). The seams are showing heavily on DSC, and you can’t possibly find equivalents for the good episodes of early TNG.

There are lots of factors to consider in these questions, some of which have been mentioned above, but, ultimately, absolutely, yes.

TOS is my favorite Trek and MASH is my favorite TV show. (TOS being close behind and also Seinfeld, X-Files, Married With Children, WKRP, and Simpsons, seasons 4-10, lurking not far off)

 

Favorite Trek? DS9 and TOS have slight edges, but TNG is very high up.

Favorite show ever? Nope. Maybe Red Dwarf, 1960s Doctor Who, or The Orville. But 60s-90s Trek all are way above average on my list regardless.

 

TNG got me into Trek.
My contention is that in my active fantasy world, I'm too realistic.
I know that as a slacker like myself I'd never have gotten assigned to be on the coveted Enterprise. In my Fan fiction I'm not a slacker and have received my dream assignment.
DS9 is for the 'normal' people who can't solve linear algebraic problems in their head while noting that someone playing the piano in a concert used a diminished D rather than a C sharp.
DS9 has more facets than TNG which seems almost impossible since the Enterprise is supposed to be out seeking new life and new civilizations.
I think DS9 is permitted more recurring characters because the "perfect standard" isn't required.
TNG gives the genius, perfect, teenager while DS9 gives us two believable teens.

I think I used to prefer TNG over DS9, but sadly I belived the two have switched places for me.
As for being my favorite series ever,
I'd have to say that DS9 is my favorite series but I think it could oosdibly be because it had such a long run also.
A few of my other favorite series were
Moonlight, Grimm and Dark Angel, but none of these ran for seven seasons, sadly.

 

For me it's a definite yes and yes. I love TNG characters above all other characters in any series except maybe Doctor Who. I do see how many could love DS9 more. I love it too but TNG is just my go to show with my go to favorite characters and always will be. Even the slow stories keep me engaged as each one has something to contribute to character development. I have liked a lot of other non-Trek shows but other than Doctor Who none have grabbed me like Trek. Discovery is obviously excluded from all of this.

 

It’s my favorite Trek series along with DS9. In terms of favorite TV show, that goes to Farscape.
