    yeah sickbay looks real bad.

i also love the atmospheric lighting in generations, just not as much as the DP on discovery. every other episode is lit like generations except it rarely makes sense.

It's the missing wooden arch that kills it for me.

What, it made the actual series bad now?

    Here’s a unpopular opinion:
I never liked the straight pylons of the TOS E. The angled pylons give the design a better visual flow, on both the refit and the Discoprise.

I disagree, just slightly regarding the pylons, but wholeheartedly regarding that being an unpopular opinion.

Oh, don't get me wrong, they look ugly, which is why they were never repeated, but they're fundamental to the silhouette saying "this is the TOS Enterprise." Even the ST09 Enterprise used them. It's one of the most distinct things about that version of the ship. Heck, back in the day, looking at 32x32 or 16x16 pixel icons, the nacelle pylons were the only visible difference between the TOS and movie-era Enterprises. Even when I was playing with shapes trying to TOSify the Discoprise just a little more, I still gave the main pylon a taper, and included the potato-peeler aft strut to evoke the sweep back without actually sweeping them back.

If they wanted to make ships that looked good, they should've set DSC post-TOS, but they didn't. I'll be just as perturbed if, in the Picard show, they show the Enterprise-D and it doesn't have that horrible top-heavy double-wide saucer. If they said, I don't know, D.M. Phoenix's Allegiance was the retconned Galaxy-class, yeah, it'd look better, but it still wouldn't be right.

I'm actually in agreement. However, on the Discoprise I'm not sure if straight, but wide, pylons wouldn't have been better.

I prefer the straight one's on the Enterprise. The angled ones always seem "off" for that ship. Probably because for years there was only one ship, one crew and that's what I grew up with. The movie Enterprise is alright.....but it ain't THE Enterprise. :bolian:

Well, it is for me, since I grew up with it.

For me it’s about the flow of the design. The angled pylons work very well with the angle of the neck, balancing the look.

But I like what you did. It’s straight yet still angled. It’s a nice compromise.

But just the straight spindly pylons from the original? It’s the only element of the entire design I’m glad they changed.

Now the slits on the Discoprise? Yeah...no.

    Yep.

Though I would probably like the Discovery version even more with three changes: lose the fins on the bottom of the warp nacelles, concave the lower half of the saucer, and straight pylons.

Maybe Eaglemoss will put out the concept version with the straight pylons.

Straight solid pylons is my preference.

Love what you're doing here. Great idea, and I hope to see more as you progress!

But... I can't get behind a forward lean to the front of the pylons. They can be vertical or they can lean back, but not forward! Even the Church Enterprise didn't go that far.

This is kinda' true - I also do think the angled nacelle pylons make for a more interesting look.

But the thing is - the original had straight ones. And just this tiny change changes the entire profile of the ship SO MUCH it's essentially an entirely new design.

Like, yes, 80% is the same - and changing engines is actually the one thing that a spaceship really should be built to be able, so that one is actually the most realistic of all the upgrades for the refit. But it's also a lot about how it feels. And in this regard, the refit with the angled pylons is almost as much a different ship to the original 1701 than Picard's Enterprise-D is. It just looks very different.

So much so that even J.J. Abrams went for the straight ones, even though he sure probably would have liked them to be more swung as well. But that simply is the iconic look of the original.
