Quinto looks closer and played Spock really well, but he always emulated Nimoy in his portrayal. Peck was able to make Spock his own even in the short time he got with the character. I was totally able to buy him as a younger and more emotional version of the Spock we'll see later, and because of this, seeing him in uniform in the final scene was actually an emotional moment for me; I didn't even look at his ears or his sideburns, he felt like Spock and that was enough for me. I'm not sure though how much my opinion on Kelvin!Spock is influenced by the knowledge that he's an alternate counterpart.

Peck for me by a long mile. I liked Quinto, but he never felt like "Spock" for me, where Peck very much did. I think he really nailed the role and Spock's mannerisms without it seeming like impersonation. Couldn't be happier with his performance:)

Quinto wore it better. His face was more like Nimoy's... enough to pass as a younger Spock. Then there's the eyes... Nimoy had a relaxed, almost dull look in TOS. While Quinto had a more pinched look to his eyes, it was still passable, while Peck has an almost arrogant look in his.

I liked them equally. Purely based on looks (which, to me is a very minor element--the performance is far more important to sell the character), I'd give the nod to Quinto. Each did well with his assigned task. Quinto's Spock was supposed to diverge from "the original" owing to his alternate life experiences--and did so convincingly. Peck was required to "lead us to" "the original" much more directly, and I think he did a bang up job of it. Each was called upon to be more emotionally expressive than Nimoy (complaints that each lacked "the original's" degree of emotional control failed to account for the different circumstances under which each version lived--these complaints would have had some traction if either Peck or Quinto was playing the 2268-era Spock Nimoy gave us).

I think each actor is sufficiently talented to play Spock convincingly at any stage (save perhaps the elderly years...yet) but we're unlikely to see them (or anyone else) take that on.

No disrespect, but Nimoy may have been hungover much of the time.

Peck is a better actor. Quinto looks more like Nimoy. They are both acceptable Spocks but neither can truly replace the great Nimoy.

    Peck.

I like the JJ movies, but I never once understood all the love ZQ got in the role. Mediocre.

They shouldn't have shaved him. He played it well bearded, but I wouldn't even know it was the same actor clean shaven, especially in the too-bright, too-tight cosplay uniform and wig. Up until that moment, I believed him as younger Spock.

Quinto doesn't sound much like Nimoy, but he did a good job playing not-quite-Spock. I didn't love the JJ era uniforms, but at least they didn't make me laugh.

Long story short: both good, but DSC needs to keep Spock beardy and in cool off-duty garb.

I suppose it’s a little unfair to compare both actors’ performance when you consider they played the character at different points in his life. Peck did a great job as a pre-TOS Spock, but, like the poster above said: I wouldn’t have known it was the same actor cleanly-shaven.

Quinto is Spock unless Peck does a lot more work.

Quinto can afford to look less like Nimoy.

I don't think Quinto looks much like Nimoy, although I know many (including Nimoy himself and his family) did.

I do feel that Peck acted more like the Spock we know than Quinto ever did, and that smoothed over any physical non-resemblance to Nimoy for me.

Introducing Peck with a beard and then removing it at the last moment just sets the audience up for some disconnect. I don't know anyone who can go from full beard to clean shaven without everyone needing at least a few hours/days to adjust...

Quinto has the better sideburns. But while he has to be admired for taking on an impossible job, especially at the time, I never thought he pulled it off as well as some of his castmates pulled off their roles, especially McCoy. Even setting aside the whole "emotionally compromised" bit, Quinto's Spock just came across as too warm to me.

Peck nailed it on so many levels. He has just the right amount of gravitas for a young Spock.

It's an incredibly hard task, as Nimoy was unique. It's surprising how well Peck managed.

I think Quinto's facial structure is closer to Nimoy's than Peck. But Peck's voice works better.
